What if * died before the election?
Of a heart attack or something? Would Cheney be able to simply appropriate the campaign money and take over?

That horrible thought reminded me of a joke I heard on Pacifica:

President Bush dies and goes to Heaven where he meets St. Peter at the pearly gates. St. Peter looks at George's accomplishments and says, "George, you've spent a lifetime of sin. You can't get into Heaven."

So George says, "But I gave a nickel to a bum I saw at a railroad station in '64. Then there was that guy I met in '74 that needed money for food... I gave him a nickel as well, and in 84 I threw a nickel at a bum from my limo as we drove past on our way to a banquet."

St. Peter says, "But George, that's only 15 cents and it hardly makes up for a lifetime of sin."

And George says, "Well, it shows a pattern of giving. Each act showed compassion for the poor, and I kept it up for many years until I died. I've obviously lived a Christian life."

St. Peter says, "Well, George, that's certainly an original way to look at it. Let me go and ask what God wants me to do."

St. Peter goes off and confers with God.

God hears the story and immediately renders his decision, "Give George his 15 cents back and tell him to go to Hell."

:)

1. Yeah
Cheney would become president (he's already president now, but you know what I mean), and the RNC would have a vote and almost certainly make him the GOP nominee.

3. So the donations are to the "nominee", not the person?
If I send money to Kucinich, for example, it's not a donation to him, it's a donation to the "candidate" and they can substitute anyone they want? Doesn't sound very good to me. Is that how it works, really?

No. The poster is mistaken. Donations go to the person. They can be used for a different office (if Kerry has any money left over, he can use it for his next Senate campaign), but it's not transferrable to a different person.

4. I think he's going to be reincarnated as a cockroach.
Then DeLow the Exterminator will accidentally zap him with some Raid. Imagine jr. frantically screaming "No Tom, it's me, George!" as the can inches closer and closer to his twitching little body. I think he'll work through a lot of karma with that life! :D

that he'd be assassinated & martyred by his own people/family if things get too rough or the public gets too close to the truth on too many issues

tinfoil haberdashery? perhaps.

6. There's a lot of truth to the saying,
"Only the good die young." JFK, RFK, MLK, Wellstone all immediately come to mind. Strom Thurmond lived a century. Reagan is old as the hills. Ford is 90. Cheney has had every heart malady in the books, but he's still snearing. Expect the chimp to set new longevity records.

11. The worst thing that could happen before the election...
...would be, 1, John Kerry getting the nomination (Skull and Bones v. Skull and Bones) or...

...2, John Edwards getting the nomination, and Bush using the Patriot Act, which will soon come to an end because John Edwards put the Sunset Clause in it, to delay the election so that he can't lose to Edwards who is not part of the same agenda that he and Kerry and Skull and Bones is.
