On line letter to Representative Inslee 1/13/2008
Dear Representative Inslee:
This evening Representative Wexler is going to address the House about impeachment hearings. I am asking that you support Rep. Wexler in his efforts because it is VERY important to myself as it is to many people around the U.S. Here is why I believe these hearings are important strategically:
As you also know our own state legislature is also considering a bill to impeach. I know your Speaker has said this issue is "off the table," which frustrates many constituents who believe a hearing that will examine the facts that would bring out whether or not this administration has violated the law would answer those questions once and for all. Speaker Pelosi is being viewed by many of us as a weak representative who does not seem to understand that there are a whole lot of citizens from constitutional lawyers such as John Dean, to numerous ACLU chapters, to city councils around the country and finally to hundreds of thousands, likely millions of ordinary citizens who believe our Constitution is in danger unless the House begins impeachment hearings. If Democrats take up the fight it shows they have more courage than previously thought.
Perhaps these proceedings might scare the crap out of any presidential candidate but still ...
We should please keep in mind impeachment hearings encourage candidates to make this an issue should they become president because the clock may be ticking while these potential criminals are still in office for impeachment hearings, but the next president can also prosecute them after they take office (John Dean, Constitutional lawyer says this is possible), should this become a large issue. Besides the choosing of the next Supreme Court judges, the violation of our Constitution is of paramount importance to many of us who believe in its validity with all our hearts and are willing to give our lives for it as many of our fore bearers have.
I am well aware that a few powerful Dems might also be implicated for "going along" but they are few in number compared to the myriad of Republicans who openly supported some questionable actions. We all remember how Democrats had no say, how Republicans steam rolled legislation and policy and we will not forget that! These Democrats need to say outright they had no power ~ and were openly kept from important information in order to be bale to make informative decisions when these policies and actions were implemented.
So, even if the clock runs out, getting impeachment hearings off the ground NOW where the information comes out as to what these people have or have not done, should mean that ALL the presidential candidates (including Republicans who would have to take sides with the embarrassing information that emerges), who would need to address the findings in order to stay current as viable candidates.
VERY Sincerely yours, just a little constituent who keeps informed, Cat Sullivan Kenmore, WA, email, home address and phone included
