My father WORKS for a living
He had a college education, from a university in USSR.
He came to United States on October 25, 1991, with a wife, and 3 kids (13, 9 and 5), and $500 to his name.
He took any job that was offered (delivery boy, photo lab tech, etc)..
My mother cleaned banks (with a teaching degree from USSR).
We lived in Hartford, CT, around many other immigrants.

My parents were able to safely and comfortably raise 3 children in the 1990s (when a democrat was President).

They bought their first (ever!) car in 1993 (when a democrat was President).

They were able to save enough money for a down payment on a home in the suburbs, and in 1999 achieved their american dream of owning a house (when a democrat was President).

We always had HealthCare.

They sent their 2 children to college, myself (private school in Mass), and my sister, UCONN.

I graduated from college in 1999 (when a Democrat was President).

They never voted, until I turned 18 and got them involved.

The above is NO LONGER POSSIBLE in America today.

I support ANY DEMOCATIC nominee, because like my father, I work for a living, and like my father, I see that under a Republican president it's harder and harder to make ends meet.

NO MORE Repubs!

1. Kudos to your family!
I fear you are right, that the work-your-way-up-pursue-the-American-dream mode that we all grew up in is no longer possible the way things are now. We must change them! We owe it to ourselves, our children/grandchildren, not to mention what we owe to the thousands of our troops and the Iraqis who have died, are wounded, whose futures have been snatched from them. Like you, I will support any Democratic nominee for any office, because that is all I know how to do to effect the changes we must have to secure the future.

No more repubs--right on!

2. same story here.. a week after Reagan became Governor of CA all college grants and loans stopped and
Edited on Tue Jan-15-08 01:42 PM by sam sarrha
college fees went up, i dropped out.. the first person in the history of our family that came here in 1720. by the time i saved enough to go back and started again he became president and did the same thing nationally.

we bought our first house under Clinton, got my best job ever, bought my first new car with safety teachers for the family.

it was said in the first few months of Reagan being governor that if he quit being Governor.. it would take 20 years to fix the damage to the California school system.. it wasn't until about 1996 that a serious study of the educational system, initiated by lawsuits, showed that only 3 out out of 7 high school graduates could pass the propensity test, 3 out of 7 could not read or write well enough to fill out a job application..4 out of 7 in some areas.

a $5 billion dollar a year company pulled out of our 20% unemployed area because they couldn't find enough people who could read and understand the work instructions for the job.

the last aerospace job i had was nearly dropped by Boeing because they had poor training in drawings and paper work.. i have a ML.std2000a certification in electronics assembly from Boeing, working on the F22, Delta3, Sea Launch... i asked them numerous times for appropriate drawings.. it seems the management doesn't want us to know, because they would find out the people there cant do the job right, they dont want trained people like me to stare.. finding problems to fix cause their engineers cant fix anything.. "no complaints so far dont mess with it." but everything is so F'd up they cant get anything done, the bottom line is profit.. not a good product and reputation.
