Atlanta Journal Constitution endorses John Kerry
:wow:

Combat-sharpened Kerry can correct course of U.S.

Particular moments in history demand leaders of a particular background and character.

This is U.S. Sen. John Kerry's moment.

At this point in their history, his party and his country require battle-hardened leadership, someone experienced in the challenges of world affairs and the complexities of a global economy. They require a leader who is capable of fighting hard on behalf of the country and summoning it to honor its true ideals. Kerry is uniquely qualified to meet that test.

Kerry has never shied from duty or hardship. As a young Yale graduate with other options open to him, Kerry took a course that most others like him did not, and volunteered to serve in Vietnam. Once in uniform, he volunteered again to serve in a combat role in which he demonstrated considerable bravery and coolness under fire.

6. Yeah, but
Why didn't they pick Kucinich? Everyone on this board knows he's got the nomination in the bag.

9. Their "agenda"?
Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 10:50 AM by onehandle
Very interesting choice of word. Very.

I believe their "agenda" is to pick the best candidate. All newspapers do this. It's called an endorsement. Generally right before an election. A primary in this case. On Tuesday.

That's their "agenda". Doing their job.

10. It was actually a joke.
Everyone on this board has such a conspiracy theory mentality I had to beat them to the punch.

7. Is that both papers?
This page:

http://www.wheretodoresearch.com/News/ranks-US_Newspapers.htm

says that they split endorsements last time, with the Journal going for Bush and the Constitution for Gore.

14. Yes
If you read the closing paragraphs of the endorsement though, they seem to be saying that John Kerry is their choice because he's the one they think can beat Bush. So I'm wondering if those are the sentiments of both papers.

15. That was when there were still 2 newspapers in Atlanta...
the Constitution, the morning paper, and the Jounal, the evening paper. Both published by the same company, with different editorial boards. They've since been combined into one paper. I would predict that the Democratic nominee will likely receive their endorsement in the general election.

12. AJC reminds us of just how important this election is to our future...
With so much at stake, the next several months are certain to be difficult. At times the debate over our national direction and values will be nasty, it will be petty, it will be divisive and even personal. But it will also be necessary. To ensure that the American people understand the full ramifications of the choice before them, the Democratic Party needs a nominee able to articulate an alternative future and to defend it against attack.

Kerry should be that nominee.

Thank you, AJC.
