Kerry brought it up at the very end. I couldn't believe that the moderators never brought it up. I don't have good enough recall for the exact quote but he certainly came out against cutting benefits as a way to deal with the deficit.

4. I do think COLA should be a flat fee each year.

If the COLA percent goes up say 2.4 I see no reason Congressmen should get 2.4 of 150,000 a year and most 2.4 or say 12,000 a year. Bread and milk cost the same for both. It would also save a lot of money.It is a silly way to do it. Take the ave and use that and every one gets the same.

5. Define Social Security

Here's my simple take on SS:

There may be some money saved up, somewhere, but I doubt it

It's a lottery backed by the full faith and credit of the American Government.

At present, the cash inflow to SS, is not saved, or banked, or invested. The cash inflow is immediately payed out via checks in the mail to America's grannnies and granpas.

Sooner or later, there will be a SS cash flow problem. That time will come when payouts far exceed income. Let's hope we still have faith when that time comes.
