Amazing how he sounds like a real Democrat, don't you think?

SNIP...."Delivering his first speech since ending his bid for the presidency, former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean '71 said in New Haven last night that the Democratic Party needed to draw a contrast with the Bush administration to win back the White House.

Returning to the city where he spent his college years, Dean thanked his Connecticut volunteers and asked them to help the eventual Democratic nominee remove what he called the "most extreme, ideological administration I have seen in my lifetime." Dean, who ended his candidacy last Wednesday, said he hoped to keep the grassroots network that formed the backbone of his campaign active throughout the 2004 campaign....."

1. Dean had the best stances of the major candidates on a few issues

One of the most important to me was his belief that we need to keep the dialogue about race going, rather than ignore it until we need to pander to black/white/Latino/&c voters. He made a mistake in using the Confederate flag as his visual, but the message he put out was unmistakably the right one--we can be the ones for poor and middle class southerners, and to do that talking about how the GOP uses race to divide us while Democrats should use economics and common ground to unite us was a great plan.

3. Also:
Dean's discussion on reducing the eventual prison population through home visitation to new parents resulting in a significant reduction of child abuse as quantified by his programs in Vermont is one of his many stances missing in what remains of the 2004 primaries. Damn!

8. 'Coward'?
Actually, I found it quite brave, because I think he could have been there, had he wanted to be. He hasn't dropped out, unlike the others who have.
