Stephanie Tubbs Jones. ; Sheila Jackson Lee, comments

.........“To say that there is a pattern of racist comments coming out of the Hillary campaign is ridiculous,” said Ohio Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones. “All of the world knows the commitment of President Clinton and Sen. Clinton to civil rights issues — and not only the commitment in terms of words but in terms of deeds.”

Referring to the King quote, Sheila Jackson Lee, another Clinton supporter, said Clinton was trying to contrast King and Obama, not to diminish King: "It really is a question of focusing on the suggestion that you can inspire without deeds — what is well known to the child who studies Dr. King in school is that yes, he spoke, but he also moved people to action."

3. Xultar, I still love you but c'mon. . .
. . .both Tubbs and Jackson Lee are Clinton surrogates. I'm not trying to argue the point, I'm just pointing out that Clinton surrogates supporting them or Obama surrogates attacking the Clintons needs to be taken with a grain of salt. I'm interested in hearing what our leaders who have not come out for either candidate have to say.

5. Ahhh but they are only sayin that cuz they are Clinton surrogates not cuz they really see it
that way.

Black folk have to all see it the same way unless a Clinton has their foot up their ass.

7. Sure would. I've been fair down the line. I don't accuse Obama for shit his surrogates say.
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 06:10 PM by xultar
That'd be stupid.

If I judged Obama by what I see the people here doing I'd hate his guts.

Don't forget, Obama is a politician. He's playin a game and he's got a persona. If you don't realise that then you're naive.

12. Yes, I'm a Black man. . .
. . .so wouldn't you agree, there are Black folks not upset and there are Black folks upset. My point is that 2 Clinton surrogates saying everything is cool is no stronger than 3 Obama supporters saying no it isn't. Would you agree?

14. Yeah, I'd have to agree, but I'd also ask if those three are DU?
Because you have to admit it is a double-standard on DU.

Because they support OBama they are all hypersensitive about race where he is concerned.

But if it happened to you and me on the street they wouldn't give a shit.

White liberals on DU make me think twice...because you know they say the most fucked up shit when they dislike someone. But when they like ya they give you a pass.

18. I feel you, but lets be honest with ourselves. . .
When the whole McClurkin thing went down, there were DUers who sincerely offended, and there were DUers who saw it as an opportunity to attack Obama.

When Hillary was unnecessarily piled on the press for the crying, etc. There were DUers who were sincerely offended, and there were DUers who used it as an opportunity for Hillary.

In both cases there were DUers who also remained silent or said neither was a big deal. Some of them believed that while others saw no political mileage for their selected candidate.

You and are in agreement in that many of those outraged wouldn't be in they didn't either support Obama or hate Hillary. But likewise many of the DUers who are saying its no big deal would be raising all holy hell in the general election if the GOP pulled this shit and Obama is the nominee.

I'm sincerely bothered by what the Clintons are doing, more so because I have hold them in high esteem.

I think while you and I on different sides on this issue we are actually viewing from a similar perspective.

20. I just don't feel that they'd be so up @ arms if racist statements were said about
any other black person @ the moment. Yes, there'd be a few but you've read some of the racist shit on this board. Now you see the over pouring of outrage. I'm not buyin it. That is what makes my hair blaze. If it were Colin Powell running, whom I happen to respect though I don't like his politics...they'd be sayin all kinda shit. You know that.

That is what pisses me off.

25. True. But I have to say, Powell ain't my guy. Obama has it over Powell in SPADES.
First, Obama ain't no fuckin republican. But if someone here were to say racist shit about Obama or Powell I'd have the same reaction...:grr:.

Personally I wish none of this shit was going on. Why? because we are distracted. If I had it my way...Hillary, Obama and Edwards would not be running. They totally blind people to the fact that...WE MUST WIN. I don't want this to be a historical election for gender and race as much as I want it to be a 90 % voter turnout and a landslide of tsunami-ical proportions. I want the landslide to be so bad that the republicans feel like they need to be relocated to another continent. THAT BIG.

More than I want Obama or Hillary to win I WANT A FUCKING DEMOCRAT TO WIN. I don't want any shit going on, I want the convention to scare the goddamned balls and titties of the republicans. I want them to lock themselves in their homes and put duct tape and plastic sheeting over their windows and doors and eat all the food they stored up for the coming terra-ists attack.

THis election is big. BIGGER THAN BIG. There are Martians who want a Democrat to win. This shit is intergalactic.

A DEM MUST WIN. I want Hillary and Obama and all their supporters to be all about that.

GODDAMNIT A DEM MUST WIN!

27. The primaries are scaring the "goddamned balls and titties off the republicans"
The record turn outs and our ability to attract independents scare the shit out of the Republicans. I know Obama and Hillary are progressive enough for you but they are for me and many more, but more importantly there are not Republicans and the Republicans are scared to death.

32. xultar, that post was both hilarious and SO SPOT ON

A large scale repudiation of the bathtub drowners, neocons, war profiteering, theocons and the like MUST be done.
Whoever gets the nod, I will work for them to do this.

but also, if we have someone with a big vision and the ability to sell it, to make the dittoheads blather seem like the racist/sexist blathering that it is, would be the ideal.
Do we have that? Well, we have to make do with what we get, I suppose.

Thanks for the upbeat post!
:hi:

Sorry to butt in here...

Because they support OBama they are all hypersensitive about race where he is concerned.

But if it happened to you and me on the street they wouldn't give a shit.

I think you are right. Otherwise how to explain the discrepancy? Why can racism mysteriously be "seen" in one case by people who are so blind to it in every other case?

16. I don't know if you were here before and during 2004, I've seen some of the most
ignorant ass racist shit spouted by people here. Now to see them all up @ arms about the least little shit and using it makes my hair blaze.

I see them as pandering and it looks cool. They think Obama has soul and he moves them, he's diverse...blah blah blah...they think he'll bring change.

Obama is the same as Clinton and all the other politicians. He gives great speeches, but don't be fooled. HE IS NO PROGRESSIVE. Hell, I'll vote for the guy only cuz he's not PROGRESSIVE. The only thing I don't like about Obama is that he's got folks fooled (but between you and me I think it is kinda cool on the slick and sly tip. I think it is cool that a bruva can fool all these progressive white folk into getting them to vote for him because he's so much more Progressive than Hillary when he really isn't.)

So I'll hold my nose and vote for him because he put on the great act. But I would have voted for him anyway if he didn't because like him I'm no progressive. Does that make sense?

24. First off,
if anyone truly believes a progressive would be elected president of the United States, they're living in denial.

Dennis Kucinich is a true progressive but he's not getting the nomination. Bernie Saunders is a true progressive but he's not getting the nomination either. You have to give props to Obama for campaigning for him in his Senate run last year.

Especially two women who are so very very progressive?

God, I never knew "The Clintons" had so much mind control power. Puts a whole different POV on the impeachment thing.

I'm gay and female, and I would NEVER defend either a sexist or a homophobe, no matter who.

29. Black leaders supporting Hillary are only doing so out of self-interest
Bill and Hillary have promised them something in return for their endorsements. I don't care what Lee and Jones say, they are bought and paid for by the Clintons. No one does patronage politics better than Bill Clinton and he's promised a lot of stuff to those black leaders, so of course they're going to defend them. Bill could turn into Don Imus and they'd still defend him.
