Prediction: MSM will stoke the racism angle, Clinton will win new support from voters who see
voters who see that if Clinton had 85% favoraibility ratings with African Americans one year ago, after knowing her 20 years and after 2 Clinton terms and her Senate career, there is something suspicious about suddenly deciding there's "racism" there and it's not based on anything REAL.

The race baiting by the MSM is going to backfire on them in Clinton's favor.

1. People who want to see racism will see it no matter the facts.

2. People continue to overestimate...
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 05:40 PM by origin1286
The memory and depth of the public. No one will care/remember that Hillary had an 85% favorability rating if the racist tag starts to stick. Look at the GOP: Romney has been stuck with the flip flopper label despite the fact that Mccain has flip flopped more than anyone in this race. Kerry got swift boated despite the fact the allegations were unproven, at best.

Voters are very superficial. If the "Oh my God did you hear what Hillary said about black people? She's a racist!" starts, it won't matter if she is Rosa Parks incarnate.

4. The MSM is not race-baiting. Maybe they're overhyping the Clinton campaign's race-baiting...
but not doing the race-baiting themselves.

I remember forever ago being young and kids doing what the MSM is doing with the 'enthusiastic staffers' and not-really-a-surrogate stories. The trick is to stand between two kids, trying to provoke a fight between them, saying, "Oooooh! Did you hear what he just said about your mom? Are you going to just stand there and take that?"

That said, individually the "fairy tale", the MLK/LBJ comparison, the Shaheen comments, the anti-Muslim email forwarding, and particularly the "shuck-and-jive" comment all seem to be just stupid, thoughtless and inartful analogies. But taken together, they present one consistent message, which can hardly be considered accidental. It sends the message that Sen Obama is black, and *we're* not racist, but we alllll know the Republicans are, as well as the "swing voters", so the Democratic party will lose if he is nominated.

This technique is dirty, and there are truly only so many times you can drop poison in the well before people catch on to what you're doing. There will be a point that Sen. Clinton firing people or decrying such statements will lack credibility.

9. Fairy tale comments had nothing to do with race. Clinton campaign didn't send the Muslim email
There's no Clinton campaign race baiting and voters know it

5. you can't say this enough
i think a few more threads about it are in order.

and you're right - the Clinton campaign of race baiting and playing to the most base prejudices, is going to rally the black community.
