How many people remember during 2k4 when Dean supporters called Rangel an Uncle Tom?
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 04:16 PM by xultar
Y'all remember that? They didn't like him because he liked Clark. So the immediate response was hatred (which I expected) but not the racist uncle tom comment. Where does a white person get off calling a black representative an uncle tom cuz they don't like him.

Well that is why I'm so hot. FREAKIN HOTT! Because when you do like a black person it is a whole different thing. Y'all get hyper sensitive about race. How can that be?

These are the same people who want me to think that racism is important now only cuz they support OBAMA.

I've seen racist post against Condi and Colin. YEs, I don't like them cuz they are Republican...but why is it ok to post racist stuff about them because you don't like them but o.k. to be upset about racism towards Obama.

If you like a black guy you care. If you don't like or don't care then you can post/say what you want.

Now ya'll can see why I'm angry. I need someone to help me understand why DU is like this. Explain to me why I shouldn't be skeptical and pissed off.

7. What thread? And why the fuck are you dragging '04 Dean supporters into this?
Calm the fuck down on baseless attacks against people who have no beef with you.

16. It happened before you joined in 2004 ...
and you people WERE ugly. Attacking people who didn't immediately drop support for their candidate and supporting Dean. One person trying to get a poster here fired from their job because he wasn't towing the line.

WTF indeed.

19. "You people"?? How the hell can you lump ALL a candidates supporters into one?
EVERY candidate has supporters who post dumbass things, get real.

Trying to blame an entire class of people for something moronic one poster typed is ridiculous.

Are you not over the '04 primaries and this is some kind of bizarro remnant of Dean supporter hatred rising to the surface for you?

The '04 primaries are over. I was, and still am, an enthusiastic Dean supporter.
Sorry you tussled with another Dean supporter somewhere, but the "you people" thing is ludicrous and juvenile.

20. Easy thank you
and yes, "you people". There was one than one moronic person who did that shit.

Juvenile? I believe you starting the hissy post here because someone said something bad about Dean. The '04 primaries are over, so deal with the fact that there's a "you people" out there who didn't appreciate another "you people" acting like douchebags.

21. How fucking stupid. Yeah, all candidate X's supporters are racist douchebags.
There's a winning debate.

I don't believe in collective punishment for the actions of one dumbass declaring support for somebody. Lucky for your candidate, BTW.

9. Why don't you take a breather.
Head down to the nearest Olive Garden, have the corn-flake breaded veal and a nice smoke.

10. I did not remember that. I know I would have if I had seen it.
But then again, I was a Clarkie.

I could probably talk to you and afterwards you would have a better understanding of where SOME people were at when they said that, but it would require face to face time and some drinks to get it out.

Over a text-based medium like this, there is ZERO chance that we would ever be able to really communicate with each other because our words are flattening us all out into caricatures of people.

If I met you, I have no doubt we would find many things we like about each other. On DU on the other hand, you may very well already hate my slimy guts becauase of any number of perceived slights.

Peace and love. Wish we could really talk.

11. I wasn't posting here in 2004, but no Dean supporter I know ever said such a thing.
And the only person I have ever referred to as "Uncle Tom" is this vile traitorous piece of shit....

racism when it applies to Obama.

Why should race play in it at all. He's an asshole republican and that is all you need to key on.

Explain it.

18. What if...
Instead of the term "Uncle Tom", a poster said:

"Congressman XXX is doing an injustice to other African-Americans and he should be ashamed of himself for tuning his back on them since he should and probably does know better."

Would that phraseology be equally problematic?

12. Good point
Of course it would help if we knew whether it was the same people or not. I personally think some people get mad, lose all reason and just write whatever pops into their heads without thinking carefully about what they are saying. But perhaps I'm being too generous.
