Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 04:13 PM by Konza
Would someone tell the Hillary advisors to shut up?

Seriously....

2. Here is the specific quote from the article
"In the words of that Clinton adviser: "If you have a social need, you're with Hillary. If you want Obama to be your imaginary hip black friend and you're young and you have no social needs, then he's cool."

My God. Pathetic.

Even to me and I've always known the crap white people say behind closed doors. I just thought it was old people who were raised in a different time and hadn't made the change. This is some awful stuff.

...everyday, I'm seriously going to have to go on meds. I can't take it anymore. Just when the anger over one subsides, they unleash another. It's too much.

WTF is the general election going to be like? I just can't even think about it.

That was not the remark. "If you have a social need, you're with Hillary. If you want Obama to be your imaginary hip black friend and you're young and you have no social needs, then he's cool."

This reminds me of this classic site for nerdy white people. http://www.blackpeopleloveus.com/

Welcome to our website:
Black People Love Us!

We are well-liked by Black people so we're psyched (since lots of Black people don't like lots of White people)!! We thought it'd be cool to honor our exceptional status with a ROCKIN' domain name and a killer website!!

Testimonial- "Johnny is generous enough to remark upon how "articulate" I am! That makes me feel good!"

I can't have an opinion?
I should just let the machine insult my candidate, put me down, laugh while doing it?
Nope. I'm gonna say what I think. And you're free to do likewise.

And it is true that I am technically new here.
But I've been here since 2004, but never joined/posted, just read.
I'm embarrassed to admit that I gave up on politics in Dec 2000.
I was still interested to read, but I kinda felt democracy was dead in America.
But for the first time in a long time I give a damn and think we have a chance to do something extraordinary.
Now, you can join, oppose or sit on the sidelines.
But I'm going to do what I think is right, for the first time in a long time, and maybe for the last time.

peace.

I'll make sure to say the same thing the next time you demand an appology from Obama for something McClurkin said at some point ... when obama came out and said: I strongly believe that African Americans and the LGBT community must stand together in the fight for equal rights. And so I strongly disagree with Reverend McClurkin's views and will continue to fight for these rights as President of the United States to ensure that America is a country that spreads tolerance instead of division."

37. I don't agree with it, but....
(and I'm going to get nailed for this, and it it's not even how I want to think)

...I'm willing to be a *little* more understanding towards people who just don't-quite-get-it-yet with regards to gay and lesbian rights BECAUSE:
1. This struggle is newer, whereas we're many generations in to the civil rights movement
-and-
2. Churches and society are still sending mixed messages to people on this issue, whereas they are in unity on the race issue.

But my personal views on gays and lesbians are: no difference and no different rights or treatment. And I make those views known.

The Guardian is fairly well respected. If they said that an "Advisor" said it, I'm going to take their word that somebody fairly high up in the Clinton campaign uttered these words.

We'll probably never find out who though, unless one of her advisors suddenly leaves the campaign for "personal reasons".

Like you say, for some people the distant and "imaginary black friend" is much more comfortable for a large number of Americans. I'm speaking of those for whom the shoe fits. I know there are guilt-free, honest-to-god supporters of Obama with no baggage attached to it. The fact is, racism, as well as misogyny is a component in this campaign.

A talking head fine, but somebody affiliated with the campaign? That's irresponsible, IMO. These comments are making Hillary's campaign look very, very bad.
