Obama aides see race going well past Super Tuesday. South Carolina seen as crucial for Obama
But I thought his supporters here said the race is done because there are only 48 states left?

Advisers to Barack Obama are increasingly convinced that the fight for the Democratic presidential nomination will continue past February 5, when 24 states will hold nominating contests, including California, New York, and New Jersey.

"It will not be finished February 5," says a senior Obama strategist. But he admits that a lot depends on the outcome of the South Carolina primary for the Democrats on January 26. If Obama wins there, he will revive his momentum going into the Florida primary January 29 and Mega Tuesday on February 5. Then the battle will move to the contests of mid- and late February and early March.

If Obama loses South Carolina to Hillary Clinton, it will be a very serious setback, Obama advisers admit privately.

1. Thanks Larry O'donnell, now everytime I see the word race used with Obama's name
I think of racism and not the 'horse' race! :grr:

5. Obama will win SC and may win Nevada - sit back and relax - until 2/5 when we all get nervous :-)

9. That wasn't my issue
It really does make me crazy, when otherwise intelligent people say ridiculous stuff just to smear someone.

6. I was aiming that at Obamites at DU who demand Edwards quit after 2 races, not the Obama campaign

8. I apologize
It did not sound like you were referring to the fact that Edwards' low numbers in those races. Sorry. When idiots make idiotic statements, it doesn't bother me. When people, who I know aren't idiots, make ridiculous statements, it drives me over the bend. Again, sorry.

7. I think both races might go past Feb. 5 and I've been saying it for a while.
Usually Super Tuesday in March is a coronation. This time, all the candidates will still be around. This means that no winner will have been coronated yet. So yes, it could easily push things past Super Tuesday.

10. Are you done?
Some of us have been saying that there will be a brokered concention becuase of the compressed schedule.

The meme about it being over after NH was premised on failrly convincing polling data before NH.

I don't think thereis a person here who said it was over after New Hampshire.

Find me one.

11. I will say it publically if Hillary beats Obama in South Carolina
that she is probable y going to win the nomination even though I would expect a respectable showing by Obama on Super Tuesday
