3. He messed up the second one
It actually reads: "Objects in your REARVIEW mirror are closer than they actually appear"

I think he intentionally left that bit out

7. What about the first debate when Edwards said...
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 08:19 PM by tryanhas
..."this president walks around the country speaking spanish, but when it comes to jobs, the only spanish that he knows is 'hasta la vista'", and then he started laughing as the audience applauded and he tried to continue speaking through his laughter.

That was one of my favorites, along with, "NOT SO FAST, JOHN KERRY" and "that's the longest answer that I have ever heard to a yes or no question."

It's how he made his fortune. Are you embarrassed by his words? If not for these words, he would be back at the mill.

25. If the shoe was on the other foot...
And Edwards was out of the race, I would fully expect a few Clark supporters to call this whining.

John Edwards is a good guy, and he was a gentleman even when treated in a dastardly fashion.

21. I like the "objects in mirror" quote best
I was watching him give that speech in Wisconsin live, and as he started with the "sent a clear message", I thought he was just going to say his same old spiel that he had said after the other primaries, like nearly any politician would do.

Instead he got a big grin on his face and laid the "objects in mirror" part on the world. It made me grin, too.

-CollegeDude
Thus enjoyed that the best

28. Absurd.

John Adams? Trial lawyer. Thomas Jefferson? Trial lawyer. Abe Lincoln? Trial lawyer. All of these great Americans were trial lawyers, yet you sit here, embittered, saying, "There is nothing cool about trial lawyers." Well, jpgpenn, you know what they say: everybody hates lawyers -- until they need one.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Lawyers: Can’t Live Without ‘Em, Can’t Shoot ‘Em

...We may hate the lawyer, oft with good reason, but we love law. Law punishes, but also protects.

Big problem here. For the law to work we need lawyers. The guy who said, “He who acts as his own lawyer has a fool for a client” was not a Madison Avenue ad executive, despite some who say otherwise. We need lawyers. Is that scary, comforting, or both? When future historians rank the professions that defined our society, lawyers will be at the top of the positive contribution list. And the bottom. At the same time.

Lawyers, especially trial lawyers, can be annoying bullies. Unfortunately, there is a long list of trial lawyers who really do resemble those that inhabit the novels of Charles Dickens and John Grisham. But consider the other list: Lincoln, Thomas More, John Adams and his genius son, John Quincy Adams, Clarence Darrow, William “Wild Bill” Donovan (WWI Medal of Honor recipient, founder of the OSS, assistant prosecutor at Nuremberg), John Delaney, Harry Shorstein. Abraham Lincoln. All trial lawyers.

(...) But consider: if not for the efforts of a trial lawyer, a 16 year-old Jacksonville boy, apparently innocent, would, as you read this, be serving a life sentence for murder. Another trial lawyer and his “biker-chick” paralegal were stupid enough to stand up to a multibillion dollar utility company that had been poisoning the local population. And win. Lawyers. We need them, and their stupid egos...
