Obama picture that shows him with no hand over his heart
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 11:50 AM by quinnox
Obama seems to have a lot of emails being sent about him. A relative said she got an email picture that showed Obama not putting his hand on his heart while everyone else in the picture was, and that it was while the pledge of allegiance was being recited.

She said it made her think Obama must not be patriotic.

I already knew the back story and explained the picture was taken during the star spangled banner, NOT the pledge of allegiance.

Obama seems to be getting hammered by email disinformation.

18. Thanks for the link
I've gotten these emails (and others equally stupid) and have directed folks to snopes - when I haven't replied with a curt "stop sending me this crap".

But at dinner with an intelligent friend, she asked me about the hand over heart thing. I told her I remembered hearing about it before, but couldn't remember the details and that I would get the details to her when I could find them.

Obviously I didn't look hard enough. My point is - it's amazing how these emails can cause so much trouble when anybody can start one, saying anything, and be guaranteed that it will be forwarded at least 400 times before anyone even stops to say... wait, that's not right.

3. Hand over heart does not make one a patriot
Conservative chuckleheads do it to show off. I'd rather they raised their right hand and took the oath of enlistment.

5. its not really concern
I was relating an incident I had with a relative, because I noticed other emails were being talked about that also seem to target Obama.

"hand not on heart" picture, he is facing away from the others and probably had no idea they were all standing there in "hands on heart" mode. Had he seen it, he'd have probably gone along. I don't stick my hand over my heart when the Star Spangled Banner is played, and, apparently, neither does he.

Whoever sent you the picture ought to get a life.

10. Actually, just today someone showed me an e-mail
just abuot that and that Obama was a secret rabid fundamentalist Muslim set up to take over our country. What amazed me is that people actually are falling for this. I'm and Edwards supporter but I find this way beyond outrageous. Reflects poorly on the reasoning capacities of our wonderful citizens of the US of A.

It is stated plainly that the email was incorrect right there in the OP. What, I don't get any credit for defending Obama? Sheesh.

21. It was the National Anthem, not the Pledge. *sheepish* I don't always place my
hand over my heart for the National Anthem, but I do for the Pledge, and I'm sure Obama does too.

Tradition holds that it is *preferable* but not *required* to place your hand over your heart for the Anthem.

22. I think that photo op was proof of Obama's naivety...
He doesn't realize that the cameras are pointed at him. That's a mistake a newbie makes. I don't question his patriotism, but the photo begs the question of his intelligence. The freepers love that image and if he's the nominee it will be included in television ads in order to question his patriotism and entangle him with the "Muslim issue". We all know he's not a Muslim, but repugs will attempt to plant the seeds of distrust regarding his religious upbringing. If Obama lied about any of his up~bringing it will be used against him and damage him.
