I can just tell what they think. You might think I'm merely projecting the hatred that makes me say such things, but it is them.

and don't forget that Obama has never gone through parenting teenagers. That could be a real problem if he's elected.

4. That's gotta be a prank call.
What gets me is the number of Republicans claiming they'll vote for Obama........... but the number of Democrats claiming they'll never vote for a black.

I don't know what's going on in this country. I think everybody is losing their mind. And I don't trust all these so-called Republicans; but I *am* wary of the Democrats saying they'll never vote for someone because of the color of someone's skin.

21. No actually anyone can be a racist well beyond "the race holds the power"
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 10:47 AM by YOY
Being a minority does not make one well exempt from being a bigot.

And being in the "majority" does not entitle one to be a bigot by default let alone get a full pass into the country club.

That is not to state that there is no racism in the system. There is definitely some...but not enough to warrant a permanent case of ABMS.

37. In my neighborhood about the same I'd like to think
But then again in income terms the neighborhood is highly diverse with a strong Latin population, with Black, Asian, and White living relatively similar standard and the Latin in a worse situation in income; mostly due to a strong new immigrant status (legal or otherwise) and high population density per household. Incarceration and school demographic...can't answer that question as I'm pretty sure the entire diverse neighborhood has above average schools. Income seems to be similar in white/black/Asian in my neighborhood.

I'm pretty sure that there is quite a difference than the place I grew up in.

24. certainly not....the real problem in our country is that you cannot disprove it.
perhaps if there was racial equality in education, economics, employment, and the judicial system you could make a plausible argument that it is less than 50%. Perhaps...maybe...if there was anything even approaching racial equality. I may admittedly overstate due to life experiences, but not by much.

44. take a look at the racist attitudes from IAT studies. most people are racist.
look at the poverty rates, the incarceration rates, the state of schools in black neighbourhoods. the country ignores these things and doesnt care because of rampant racism.

42. By your logic..
80% of all Hillary's male supporters are sexist, I guess by your logic they would probably be racist as well. I don't know, you seem to have some sort of insight into what motivates voters, so explain it to me?

45. Well, since your race and your sex aren't something you really have a choice about..
I guess you are doomed to be motivated by both of those things to some degree. I suppose there are varying degrees of both as well, but I can't be as cynical as you in terms of what motivates people to vote for either Hillary or Obama.

There's been a lot of talk about all of these women in New Hampshire who voted for Hillary because they felt she was being picked on because of her sex. Well, wouldn't that be considered sexist? I mean, if they were purposefully voting for her because she is a woman, then that is discriminatory against all the other male candidates. By the same token, if a black person votes for Obama simply because of his skin color, then that is racist.

Personally, I think we need to get past all of this, racism, sexism, or reverse-racism or reverse-sexism or whatever it is.
People vote for candidates for stupid reasons all around.

The point is that both Hillary and Obama have broad appeal all around obviously, and I could see either one of them being able to transcend all of these roadblocks. That says a lot IMO about how far this country has come. I'm glad to be a part of the Party that will smash these barriers. Hopefully it can happen this year, and I say that as an Edwards supporter.

11. great. Racist votes count just as much as anyone's.
Probably BS call but hey who cares - if it's real we get one vote more and thee Reps one less. If it's not real who gives a rat's? It's not like it will make people suddenly realize Obama isn't a WASP and recoil in horror.
