Maryland Comptroller Endorses Obama


posted 7:37 am Fri January 11, 2008 - Annapolis, Md.

State Comptroller Peter Franchot announced Thursday that he is endorsing Illinois Senator Barack Obama for president.

Obama also has been endorsed by Congressman Elijah Cummings and Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler. Franchot said Obama can transcend the ideological and partisan divisions that have paralyzed politics.

Franchot, a Democrat who is a statewide elected official, is in charge of administering and collecting taxes in Maryland.

Maryland's primary is scheduled for February 12th.

1. Wouldn't we be better off if sitting state officials avoided endorsements?
At least until AFTER their primaries? The Blackwell thing in Ohio showed us how crooked this stuff can get.
