Here's an Obama smear that I just received today.

As someone who supports Edwards, this is not meant to trash another candidate as what has been happening between the Clinton/Obama camps here at DU. I just checked my email and found this passed from someone who I used to work with and think well of. I'm surprised my friend would be passing this around. I will be replying to her, but I need a few days to think about what to say first.

Before I insert the text, I'll just say, if Virginia had instant run off voting, my vote order would be: Kucinich, Edwards, Obama. I post this only to show what is being said. Virginia is trending blue, but still conservative.

Obama's parents met at the University of Hawaii . When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced. His father returned to Kenya. His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a RADICAL Muslim from Indonesia. When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocated to Indonesia. Obama attended a MUSLIM school in Jakarta .
He also spent two years in a Catholic school.
Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim.

Obama's political handlers are attempting to make it appear that that he is not a radical. Obama's introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence was temporary at best. In reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any direct influence over his son's education.
Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama's mother, Ann Dunham, introduced his stepson to Islam. Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta .
Wahabism is the RADICAL ISLAMIC teaching that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world. Since it is politically expedient to be a CHRISTIAN when seeking major public office in the United States , Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background. ALSO, keep in mind that when he was sworn into office he DID NOT use the Holy Bible, but instead the Koran. Barack Hussein Obama will NOT recite the Pledge of Allegience nor will he show any reverence for our flag. While others place their hands over their hearts, Obama turns his back to the flag and slouches. Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential

If anybody in the Obama campaign is reading this, when Obama gives his inspiring speeches, you may want him to give more of his bio. In the south, reading something like Audacity to Hope might be a stretch. Reading problems. Knuckle draggers. That sort of thing.

3. That's the first time I've seen a pre-emptive maneuver to prevent people from looking up Snopes.

Snopes covers some of the stuff there, so you can embarass them with the fact that they fell for the deception about Snopes. Be sure to reply to everyone they sent it to; make it a public embarassment. Don't take a furious posture; I think it only encourages them to get a rise out of us and the point is to embarass them more than you. Go for the condescending and not fazed posture is what I would do.

I think snopes.com has debunked this e-mail. Please look it up on snopes.com , paste the link debunking this e-mail into a reply e-mail, and then send it to all the previous receivers of the e-mail.

That's another dead give away they are trying to smear him by name association.

You don't normally use a candidate's middle name, unless it is a woman who has hyphenated it, like Hillary Rodham Clinton. But when was the last time anyone referred to John Reid Edwards or Michael Dale Huckabee?

I love Obama's first name. It means blessed. Anyone who knows even a bit of Hebrew can figure that out. (I realize his name is not Hebrew, but it's an African or Arabic form of the same word).
