So Kerry endorses Obama. Hmmm
First thought: He's crapping on his former running mate?
Cold.
He could have at least held off a while.
Until Edwards either dropped out, or made a comeback and Obama was out. In which case he could endorse Edwards or just STFU.

Second thought: A lot of Dems (including this one) aren't happy with Kerry's post-campaign fade and fold in the face of apparent voting 'irregularities'. He bailed on us.
So maybe this is not such a bad thing for Obama?
Sort of a back-handed 'compliment'?
Either on purpose or inadvertently.

And just how convoluted is that?
whew

1. Don't you mean "not such a bad thing for Edwards"?
Otherwise the argument makes no sense.

And yes, if THAT's what you mean, I disagree.

2. As I've said before-- it's like getting leprosy
There's a lot of bad feeling among a lot of Dem activists over Kerry's Dukakis-esque 2004 campaign. I'm not entirely sure a Kerry endorsement is a good thing-- especially for the type of supporter Obama's campaign is targeting.

3. That is so 2004...
nobody gives a shit about votes counting anymore...I wouldn't throw around Kerry's name anymore...especially with "Voting Irregularities"... there are some slurs going along with that. I can't wait for the general election...it should be a hoot!!

4. How about this?
You're sucking on sour grapes. How simple is that?

9. How about this?
You have absolutely no way of knowing WHAT I'm sucking on.
Or if I'm even sucking on anything at all.
How the hell do you know that I'm not BLOWING on something?
Or just sitting here holding my breath?

But you're real good at jumping to unwarranted/unsupported/dreamed-up conclusions.
I am just freakin' FINE with whichever one gets the 'D' after the name in the GE.

The endorsement either shows no class on Kerry's part, or a double-inverted, over-and-under, hidden-ball, piece of triple-reverse psychology that most folks may not get anyway.

How simple is that?
:-)

6. Kerry has the right to endorse whomever he pleases. And that is period.
And just so you know that thought is from a Clinton supporter, not an Obama supporter. (It seems from NPR that Kerry took a stab at Clinton in his endorsement...again his right) DUers need to stop damning everything that fellow democrats do that does not suit their own personal agenda/candidate.

12. He also has the right to float Baby Ruths in the punchbowl.
But it wouldn't be very cool.
Not after your teen years, anyway.

Damning Kerry?
Hell, I sent the guy more money than I could afford, worked for him.

Look bub, if it gets to the point that we at DU have to take a loyalty pledge never to say anything critical of any of our candidates (or politicians, hell Kerry's not even running) then we can call this place FR-II and go home.

7. I'm not sure its a good move really for Obama
Edited on Thu Jan-10-08 05:26 PM by sunonmars
Its smacks a bit of being set up just before New Hampshire when they thought it was a massive win for Obama and i think it looks dreadfully like a passing the torch coronation scene that was meant to set Obama for victory, it may not play very well amongst a lots of dems who have distaste from Kerry in 2004.

Personally i think its classless and crass, as the most recent Pres contender with his ex vp still in the race. I think he should have not endorsed until a winner was found.

He's slapped Edwards, thats looks bad, he slaps hilary, because i think he suspects she didnt want them to win in 2004 because then Hilary had no 2008 shot.

Thats why he chose Obama, i think its more a feck you endorsement to the other 2 rather than a real endorsement.

10. Bill Kristol also favors Obama. Hhmmmn.
You have to wonder when a candidate is getting a neoncon war-mongers support.

11. I don't even know that holding off for a while would be a good idea.
Obama needs the momentum now to keep ahead of Clinton.

I wonder when Gore came out for Dean last time around... and whether there was a shitstorm about it here. I don't remember...

13. Kerry makes constant missteps politically.

As much as I like the guy, he certainly seems to mis-read a lot of situations politically.

18. I think Clinton's win in NH is exactly why Kerry made his move now.
I'd be pretty surprised if he did give Edwards a courtesy call first. They're both pros. I'm sure Edwards knows how to handle a professional set back by this time.

19. Third thought: Kerry believes Obama is the best candidate.
He carries some small degree of sway. Not much, but it's a positive--and it's one that Edwards supporters desperately wanted, given their horrified outcry today.
