Poll question: How much does your household earn?
Gross income. Included everyone who lives in your house. In thousands...

1. might be worth splitting by household type...
single people vs. couple w/ one income vs. couple w/ two incomes

2. Maybe also ask them to post what State they live in
Earning $35,000 in Oklahoma is quite different from earning $35,000 in California

We are in the $75-99,000 range here in CA and made not even half that much when we were living in Oklahoma.

3. Very very true
My wife and I make about $160k, but we live in Connecticut. If we lived in Nebraska, we could live like gods on that sort of money. As it is, we live pretty much hand to mouth.

10. Not with Lincoln property taxes ;)
I just moved from Nebraska and am in about that bracket. You might be surprised. Obviously depends on which toiwn in both CT and NE but Lincoln housing is not as cheap as it was and is not "bursting" either. I paid about $320K for a 2500sq ft 4/3/3 in 06 and expect to sell it at about $340K. Now in Greenwich of course that's a closet I understand that, but not ALL CT is Greenwich either of course. You're also looking at $6.5K in property taxes, $900 per car for license plate tabs, etc. Nebraska is a pretty high tax state all told.

Of course I moved to the only damn state out there with even higher property taxes, but at least the decline in population and the general economy in WNY means I should save about $100K on a comparable house.

4. good point
Or by "major metro city" vs. elsewhere.

Upstate NY not = NYC; rural VA not = DC suburbs etc.

Perhaps a matter of, do you make <50%, 50-100%, 100-150%, or >150% of the median income in your area!

11. Nah this is DU where people compete to tell the most wrenching tale of poverty possible

You'll get a lot more people trying to "outpoor" than trying to "outrich" here, where wealth or even comfortable income is often seen as suspicious and somehow guilty.

6. Just made the end of the year report
for our CPA. Made under 17K at this job. At my second job, made less than 4K, so I made around 21K all told. My husband became disabled and unable to work, so count that 21K for two people.

7. It doesn't really matter... We're all screwed
the were talking about a HUGE recession on the bubble... likely before the year is out.

Hartman had some expert on... I can't remeber his name... And he said that is primarily why our gas prices are so high; the dollar isn't worth shit anymore.

Countries are buying our banks... Gold is at $2,000USD an ounce...
They said people should start saving as much as possible and paying off as much of your debt at you can.

They are saying this is going to be worse than the big crash.

BushCo doesn't include the cost of gas/oil & such in their inflation rates. If you add them in, we have had about 35% inflation rate over the last 18 months.

8. I'm in the $75- $99 group in Southern California
Me, Myself and I.

It doesn't go very far in Southern California when you live within your means, although I bought a house before things went insane so the crazy housing situation doesn't really impact me.
