Sen. Tim Johnson (D - S.D.) endorses Obama

http://www.kxmb.com/News/196637.asp

MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) South Dakota Senator Tim Johnson is endorsing a colleague for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Johnson says he's backing Barack Obama because he's bi-partisan and wants to bridge differences between the two parties.

1. awww, cute
"bridge differences between the two parties"....yeah, while he'll be building a bridge, the other party will be blowing it up...i'm so tired of this 'bipartisan' talk *sigh*

4. OK, someone wants to know why
these endorsements. I said after Iowa that the first people to get out front of the realization that Hillary can't hold the necessary stuff together, or at least have much of a coattail this fall, will be party leaders. The people, if they have time might affirm or realize this but in any case the ones who need to lead away from trouble to greener pastures will be daring to speak shortly.

This may be what I suggested, coming to pass. Obama can win big. If Edwards can win against the odds he can replace him, but the problem for the calculations of the pros and those especially wanting numbers and a progressive agenda(not just thrilled and peachy keen for parity and gridlock) could be that they see the vulnerability and the test is over. They are not going to sit back and give Hillary more of a good chance to power through the primaries anyway- which she can do and still win in November.

Cynical? For the greater good? Getting out ahead of the wave? Ideology? Similar in this awkward time frame to Gore endorsing dean too late?

We'll see, but the more endorsements forthcoming the more I am likely right. They know the real picture about the voters and are going to want to help for the best of reasons, winning big in November and bleeding less uselessly now. Also, the factions that want to have the most influence on the new kid, well, now is the time for a favor.
