Sharon Applebaum would love to vote for former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards in Michigan's Democratic presidential primary next Tuesday.
But she can't.
Edwards isn't on the ballot. Neither is Illinois Sen. Barack Obama.
They're among the Democrats who pulled their names off the ballot in deference to the traditional early primary calendar, where Iowa, New Hampshire and the national party call the shots and the states usually fall in line. The only top contender on Michigan's ballot is New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.
Michigan's half-slate of candidates irks Democratic voters who were frustrated to learn that their favorites aren't on the ballot, and they can't even write them in.
"I hate that," said Applebaum, a retired teacher from Farmington Hills. "I'm very upset I will not get a chance to vote for who I want. The people in charge were too worried about power and not enough about voters."
So how will Applebaum vote on Tuesday?
