McGreevey, Menendez to endorse Kerry's bid

After making losing bets on Howard Dean's presidential campaign, Gov. James E. McGreevey and U.S. Rep. Robert Menendez will throw their support behind the new front-runner, John Kerry.

Menendez (D-Hudson) plans to issue a public statement in support of the Massachusetts senator this morning before boarding a plane to Los Angeles to attend tonight's presidential debate, said one Democrat familiar with the plan.


McGreevey has not settled on timing for his announcement but has agreed to endorse Kerry, according to five Democrats familiar with the decision.

Menendez and McGreevey are throwing their support behind Kerry while it still has some relevance: Kerry is hoping to knock rival John Edwards, a North Carolina senator, out of the race with commanding victories in a 10-state showdown on Tuesday.
