Who would you like to head the DNC?
Now that McAuliffe has announced he will not seek a second term when it expires in 2005, who would you like to see at the helm?

I thought I'd do this as a question rather than a poll, since I wanted to leave room for all the wild speculation you can muster.

McAuliffe's announcement here:

2. I'm hoping John Kerry will do it to help Pres. Edwards!
:-)

I'm not sure yet.

Donna Brazille and James Carville are interesting names.

Time to turn the party back over to the people, instead of the elite corporatists.

25. While I understand your sentiments, that probably would not
be allowed. The upper echelon of the party would stand solidly against it.

If so he's basically a democrat. As far as Bernie Sanders goes, I don't think he's take the job.

8. Howard Dean for many reasons
He can obviously build a massive grassroots network.

He can obviously raise money.

I want a pit bull to head the DNC. No more Mr. Nice Shmoozer guy who politely disagrees with Republicans on TV. Nope. It's time we get someone who makes them as uncomfortable as they like to make us.

Call us unpatriotic or out of touch with mainstream America? Well I'll expect Dean to say "you're full of crap, and this is why..."

13. Well...
I admire Dean's grassroots and mobilzation abilities but, I don't know how he'd do with raising money from the "hated corporate machines". I would much prefer seeing him back in the statehouse in Montpelier running the state that he loves.

I hope that Sen. Edwards continues his great service in Congress should he not get the nod so, not him.

I sincerely like the idea of James Carville. He would beat Gillespie senseless on the Sunday morning shows (which Terry M. has been incapable or unwilling to do) and he is an engaging, no BS speaker.

I vote James Carville.

21. Agree with you about Gary Hart
I'd love to see him in a position where all of his talents & experience could be put to work.

I love to see him head of a Washington Think Tank, coming up with new solutions to problems facing the US.

Dems are really outnumbered when it comes to strategio thinking in DC.

He would be a great Sec of State, Head of Homeland Security, etc.

You got to give him that. He is an unfailingly, affable, Irish man. We could do worse.

I remember hoping that the late Maynard Jackson would win the post.

He just lead during a very bad time for all Democrats. I don't place the blame exclusively on him like many people on DU seem to pile on.

I hope he enters into state politics, he could be a formidable ally in national politics.

as head of the DNC.

He might be a little too good at it and affect change that would challenge them.

37. I Think Howard Dean is the Best Choice
He gave a voice to Dems when they didn't have one, therefore the perfect choice to be voice of the party.

He raised more money than Bill Clinton did as President, another really important qualification.

And he can energize people, truly give the party back to the people.

As a Clark supporter, I think he'd be terrific!!!

Aside from the Presidency, the head of the DNC could be the most important position for the party.

41. Scott Lee...
Who believes this:

Instead of the conservative motto, "A fair day's wage for a fair day's work," we must inscribe on our banner the revolutionary watchword, "Abolition of the wage system."

It is the historic mission of the working class to do away with capitalism. The army of production must be organized, not only for everyday struggle with capitalists, but also to carry on production when capitalism shall have been overthrown. By organizing industrially we are forming the structure of the new society within the shell of the old.
