They just showed him on MSNBC. This guy was so serious yet all you could do is laugh. He should be the head of the DNC. He just has a hillarious demeanor

1. Kerry v. Greenspan
So what do people think about Greenspan's comments re: Social Security, and Kerry's statements that he would not heed Greenspan's advice if elected?

Could Kerry get away with not agreeing with Greenspan on financial matters?

when Dean suggested Greenspan should resign.

4. Here's another
You should watch or read some of Bernie Sanders famous exchanges with Greenspan over the years. Bernie nails Greenspan on all of the assumptions used to guage "economic growth" versus its effects in the real world. They're on DSanders website.

Press release from website:
http://bernie.house.gov/documents/releases/20040225182200.asp

Rep. Sanders (I-VT) Calls For Greenspan’s Removal

Washington , DC – Congressman Bernie Sanders (I-VT), sent a letter today to President Bush calling for the removal of Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan after Greenspan proposed that Social Security benefits be cut for future retirees. Greenspan made the suggestion during Congressional testimony as a way to deal with the country's rising budget deficit.

Congressman Sanders, the ranking member of the Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit subcommittee, has offered legislation that would do the opposite of what Greenspan is proposing. Sanders' legislation would develop a new index that takes into account the goods and services that seniors actually buy. This would lead to larger COLA increases for seniors and would ensure that the seniors don't see a decrease in their standard of living. Currently the legislation has 110 tripartisan cosponsors.

Sanders said, “Chairman Greenspan's proposal would pay for the hundreds of billions of dollars in tax breaks the President gave to the wealthiest one percent by radically cutting Social Security benefits to future retirees and increasing the retirement age for Social Security beneficiaries. Adopting his proposal would be devastating for millions of Americans who will rely on Social Security to survive. Given Chairman Greenspan's radical views on Social Security, the President has no choice but to immediately remove Mr. Greenspan as Chairman of the Federal Reserve.”

10. Sanders is right!
The COLA you receive on SS are usually eaten up by the soaring Medicare costs! My partner now gets $1.00 more a month after the COLA of 1.9% this past year!

RESIGN NOW GREENSPAN!

IMPEACH * !!!!!!

14. A neverending sourse of enjoyment...
... those exchanges between Sanders and Greenspan. While everyone else fawns over him and treats him like royalty, Bernie always rakes him over the coals -- and Greenspan can do little but sputter, because he knows that Sanders is right.

5. Has Greenspan
said yet that he is against making the tax cuts permanent? I respect Kerry for saying he wouldn't listen to him. Greenspan should have spoken out against Bush a lot more and he didn't.

15. He more or less said that yesterday. That once Congress
gives something, it's too hard to take back. Then went around in circles for a bit. I listened to him and the Congressmen asking questions and most of the time had no idea what they were asking or what Greenspan actually said.

6. Funny? Not!
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 11:19 AM by twilight
There is nothing funny about Dennis Kucinich's remarks! You'd be really pissed if you were elderly or disabled and relying on these benefits to LIVE! :grr: :grr: :grr:

Funny ... just wait .... your day might come tomorrow where you might need these benefits! What about you parents (or do you have any?)?

After what Greenspan said, I believe he should resign - the old SOB! And * - IMPEACH!!! Go Rangel!!!!

The following statement is from a newsletter from Dennis Kucinich's campaign dated Feb. 26th, 2004:

"Congressman and presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich today renewed his demand that Alan Greenspan resign after the Federal Reserve Chairman testified before the House Budget Committee advocating cutting Social Security benefits to deal with the deficit. Kucinich believes ordinary Americans and future generations should not have to carry the burden of tax cuts for the rich."

Greenspan's little brain has lost any common sense it ever had.

12. Greenspan makes plenty of sense if you consider who he serves
As Chairman of the Federal Reserve, his responsibility is not to the citizenry, but to the investment class. Compare his recent remarks with his warnings against inflation due to rapidly rising wages during the late 1990's tech boom. Back then, he was horribly worried about these rising wages bringing on inflationary pressures (which probably wouldn't have hurt working people but would have definitely hurt the investor class). Now, he sees no problem in cutting programs for people who depend on them for the benefit of -- you guessed it! -- the investment class.

9. What did he say that was funny?
I think the way he says things sometimes is so far from what we expect from politicians. He's so frank and forthright. I love it. And yeah, sometimes I do laugh also, thinking -- how great is this guy?! He just keeps doing the right thing no matter what, and that's why we love him so very very much.

Peace

:D

13. Kucinich is clear spoken and dead serious on this
Greenspan said it was okay to make the tax cuts to the elite permanent but wants to cut SS. Twisted, inside the beltway perception that is out of touch with the rest of America.
