A reminder to ALL Democrats
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 12:27 AM by Raiden
This primary has been very nasty. Hillary's supporters attacking Obama's fans and vice-versa with Edward's supporters also in the fray. We cannot afford to give the Republicans any fodder for '08 by attacking each other unfairly (as we did in '04 with the Kerry/flip-flop meme). I've heard people here on DU saying that if their candidate lost they wouldn't support the nominee...For those "Democrats," I want to remind you of just a few things:

The Supreme Court - With the Supreme Court presently split 5-4 in favor of the conservatives, and two liberal justices on the verge of retirement, we CANNOT afford to lose in 2008. Any Democrat will appoint LIBERAL justices to the court, and that in itself is reason enough to support the nominee in the general election.

A Truly Progressive National Agenda - We already have a Democratic Congress, and in 2008 we will almost certainly increase our majority. With a strengthened Congressional Majority, we will be able to pass meaningful legislation. No matter which Democrat wins, they'll be able to pass progressive legislation from Congress. Being able to get progressive legislation passed is another reason to support the Democrat in 2008.

I could go into all the peripheral details, but I think you all already know what's at stake. I support Obama at present, but no matter what happens, I'll be supporting the Democrat in November. I think we should all promise to do the same. In November, the only thing that will matter is "vision," not "experience" or "change" though those are important. The point is that the Democratic Party has the vision to confront any challenge which this nation will face, and the Republicans bring absolutely nothing to the table but a continuation of the Bush agenda. The choice is abundantly clear. We MUST support whoever wins the Democratic nomination in November. Obama, Clinton or Edwards, they can all count on the support of this yellow dog Democrat! :toast:

4. So far the disagreements have been very civil
and you have to expect that there will be sharp disagreements of a civil nature in the future. If however someone starts swiftboating a fellow democrat we should have a common pledge against the offender.
