Paging Edwards Supporters. Where's your guy on gay marriage
Okay. Kerry says he's against gay marriage. He's gonna try to cut some nuanced position that identifies a class of people as second class citizens and allow the states enough room to discriminate as they see fit while "supporting" (whatever that means) equal rights for gays.

I am strongly against Edwards as president because of his unwavering support for the Iraw war. But, I may be able to find some breathing room. Edwards' support of the war is about something in the past. Kerry's opposition to gay marriage is about the future -- something we can still do something about.

So, where's Edwards on gay marriage? Any distinction between him and Kerry or am I going to have to leave the presidential vote blank this year?

1. His position is identical to Sen. Kerry's.
A simple perusal of Yahoo or Google News would reveal that.

10. with all due respect no it wouldn't
Edwards has changed his position on this and thus the question is fair. His responses to the HRC questionaire, which I have repeatedly sited here, stated that he would look at each right and priviledge on an individual basis and decide which ones would and which ones wouldn't be recognized for gays. Then he seemed to say he would require states to accept civil unions and now is back to letting them. It isn't the fault of people on this forum that Edwards has been inconsistent.

4. So, can I assume that means
if individual states want to deny marriage or civil unions, that will be acceptable to Edwards too?

If states want to ban gay marriages and civil unions, will this be acceptable to Edwards?

It is a state issue.

That Edwards would allow states to discriminate against a class of people; that he is willing to allow states to circumvent the Constitution?

8. I'm Sure I Don't Know
I was referring to two separate responses given on the issue regarding gay marriage. The first was for Iowa Public Television before the Iowa caucuses. He was asked by the moderator, "Do you support a federal law legalizing gay marriages?" He said, "No, because the American public was not yet ready for it yet." And on the Jay Leno show he said, "If California wants to legalize gay marriages that was fine with him." Edwards has always come out in favor of civil unions. You can get in whatever uproard you want. But, that is what he has said, that I have seen and heard, to date. So, if you don't like what I wrote, whine to someone who cares what you think.

5. The difference is....
Kerry has now come out supporting state constitutional amendments which ban gay marriage, while allowing equal rights. Edwards has not supported any such movement, yet. If Edwards wants to make this a race, he would oppose such a move on the state level, but I doubt if he will.

16. "that's good enough 4 me!!!"
Then you're either not gay or you're a sucker. That position ensures same sex couples will NEVER be treated equally in this country, period.

11. Edwards position is the same as Kerry's
Speaking to reporters yesterday afternoon, Edwards explained that he personally opposes gay marriage but supports civil unions, and believes each state should set its own marriage policy.

snip

Asked why states, not the federal government, should decide policy, he replied, "Because it's something I think should be decided by the states."
