2004 Dem Primary Turnout Increases From 2000.
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 01:04 AM by elperromagico
This is a comparison of the total votes received in the 2004
Dem primaries and the 2000 Dem primaries. As you can see,
turnout has increased significantly.

Of course, not all primaries were held at the same time (this
particular primary season has been very frontloaded), and
there were only two contenders in 2000, but I think this gives
a pretty good indication of interest in getting rid of Bush.
And the percentages far exceed the percent change in
population.

	2004 D 2000 D Percent Change

NH	192,864 154,639 24.72%
AZ	223,289 70,793 215.41%
DE	33,146 -* -
MO	418,557 265,489 57.66%
OK	302,169 134,850 124.08%
SC	292,383 -* -
TN	368,531 213,069 72.96%
VA	394,712 -* -
WI	825,855 371,196 122.48%
UT	35,191 15,687 121.33%

* Held a caucus in 2000.

Edit: South Carolina had a caucus, not a primary, in 2000.
2,000% increase is a little extreme.

1. Where are those numbers from?
AZ seems high and SC is impossible.

do you have numbers for 1992, which was the last real widely-contested Dem primary?

2,000% did seem excessive.

Edit: Checked again and you're right. I've corrected it in my original post. Thanks :)
