What's going to happen to all the anger, once the primaries are over?
Let's hope that the Democrats who are now directing their anger at other DUers
who support different candidates will, at that point, direct their energies toward
seeing to it that Bush &Co. are held responsible for all the harm we know they've done
and all the criminal acts we have yet to find out that they've committed, in our name.

May we all have the energy left, when it comes time to attack people other than our own.

12. I don't agree. I think there is much more enmity......
and bad feelings between the supporters of the leading candidates this time around.

But I do agree that once the nominee is selected, I believe that everyone will start to make nice.....

Last night was an absolute nightmare. As soon as anyone would say anything about Clinton, the attack dogs would come out of their corners. I don't have a candidate and have sat on the sidelines throughout this entire process, but this is just ridiculous.

20. That's my ongoing fear, as well. I'm so afraid that, once the Democrats are in control
again, they'll be so agog by the heady perfume of success that they'll just sing "Auld Lang Syne"
to Bush and his criminal cohorts, and let 'bygones be bygones.'

That would be an act of complete negligence and just as much a sin as the crimes Bush&Co.
committed against this country. We cannot let them stand. We cannot let them go unpunished.
And we cannot let the wrongs they perpetrated go uncorrected, to set a precedent for future
dictatorships in this country.

46. Well, I've only been "British" for 5 minutes... but I think so.
Single Quotation Marks

In the United States, we use single quotation marks < ‘ ’ > to enclose quoted material (or the titles of poems, stories, articles) within other quoted material:

"'Design' is my favorite poem," he said.
"Did she ask, 'What's going on?'"
Ralph Ellison recalls the Golden Age of Jazz this way: "It was itself a texture of fragments, repetitive, nervous, not fully formed; its melodic lines underground, secret and taunting; its riffs jeering—'Salt peanuts! Salt peanuts!'"
British practice, again, is quite different. In fact, single-quote marks and double-quote marks are apt to be reversed in usage. Instructors in the U.S. should probably take this into account when reading papers submitted by students who have gone to school in other parts of the globe.

47. No not you, Bucky!
I learned that the punctuation only goes inside the quotation if the punctuation is directly associated with the material in the quotes.

Examples:

Nancy said, "Where the fuck was your lyin ass last night?!"

She didn't seem to agree with the old adage that one should "stand by your man".

60. You learned wrong if you learned it in America.
It's grammar, not logic. So don't try using logic when you write. Rules of grammar are fairly arbitrary. The quoties always go to the outside, even when using them that way doesn't make "sense."

In each of the examples shown on that page, the quoty marks come after the commas or periods.

So not only am I sure about this rule, I'm goddamn cocky about.

66. Eh?
Rule 2. The placement of question marks with quotes follows logic. If a question is in quotation marks, the question mark should be placed inside the quotation marks.

Examples: She asked, "Will you still be my friend?"

Do you agree with the saying, "All's fair in love and war"?

Here the question is outside the quote.

NOTE: Only one ending punctuation mark is used with quotation marks. Also, the stronger punctuation mark wins. Therefore, no period after war is used.

and the next random result:

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/grammar/g_quote.html

Put a dash, question mark, or exclamation point within closing quotation marks when the punctuation applies to the quotation itself and outside when it applies to the whole sentence.

Philip asked, "Do you need this book?"

Does Dr. Lim always say to her students, "You must work harder"?

Sharon shouted enthusiastically, "We won! We won!"

I can't believe you actually like that song, "If You Wanna Be My Lover"!

Biden made it very clear that he would hold Bush responsible and I think he will. What has Obama, Clinton or Edwards said (if anything) about bringing BushCo to justice/accountability. Maybe I haven't paid much attention, but other than Kucinich, I haven't heard much. Just like we are not hearing anything about the war. You may not be aware, but there is a war going on.

31. Although the war has taken a back seat temporarily to current campaign coverage,
I'm sure that none of us has forgotten that there's a war going on.

Part of the reason for the campaign coverage enthusiasm, I believe, is that it's an opportunity for all of us
to take a breath and, for the first time in years, think/talk about something else for a brief period of time.

grudging support for a flawed candidate ; sent money, attended rallies, did not canvass
In fact, the Kerry people treated us like dirt because they viewed us (Howard Dean campaign) as dangerous insurgents.

Now, this time around it should be apparent that those who do not support Obama now will probably experience the same emotions, and be really annoyed by the perky and young enthusiastic Obama campaign workers. ( "Who ARE these people? I never see them at the Dem Club meetings")

41. Actually, I will never forget.
The attack on Hillary was to personal and too sexist. I no longer feel comfortable working with most of Obama supporters. I also know a lot of former Bush supporters are going for Obama. For me, the choice was between Hillary and Edwards, never Obama. His personal charm does not work for me at all. I prefer Al Sharpson over Obama because Al is at least real. Obama remind me of Tubak from Star trek. He is like Hollywood celeb. I still don't know anything about Obama's key policy. I can see what's Hillary focus and Edward's.

By now, I really hate Obama though I don't know much about him. I learned a lot about his background but all I got is that he is a nice guy...

What Obama supporter did in DU and in media will make some people remember how sexist this country is for a long time.

One more thing. Obama is not black. He is only half black. Yes, I know in this country if you are 1% black, you are black. Other than his skin, I see nothing black about him.

Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 08:27 AM by Perry Logan
Any number of people have promised to leave the party if Hillary gets nominated and/or elected. What a stunning victory for the Republican slime machine!

These are the same good people who love to tell us Hillary cannot win--based on their assurance that the whole world hates Hillary as much as they do. And they repeat this dismal meme over and over. Their only possible reason for doing so must be to depress their fellow Democrats. Why, thank you, Hillarophobes!

It's good news for the party if the Clinton-haters leave. We'll all feel much better, I promise you.
