Obama Fever Evident On Primary Day
Nancy Malm speaks for me! :patriot:

Obama Fever Evident On Primary Day
By Jonathan Allen, CQ Staff

New London, N.H. -- The enthusiasm for Barack Obama is palpable in this small town, as it is across the Granite State, among Democrats, independents and even many Republicans.

New London resident Nancy Malm, an independent and first-time activist, said she believes Obama will “listen to the other side” if he is elected president.

“ Barack Obama is a compassionate man,” said Malm, who is in her seventies.

She said she would like to see a woman become president but not Hillary Rodham Clinton .

“I want to see the right woman as president,” she said. “I just innately, viscerally don’t mesh with Hillary.”

Several Baby Boomer Obama supporters from Boston waved Obama signs at passing cars, eliciting a stream of honks and thumbs-up gestures from motorists.

22. I was noticing that--the first to trash Obama as a "cult leader"...
...but the last to give his/her opinion of who should be nominated instead.

10. DUers think ordinary Americans are as angry as they are, and want revenge
against Republicans because of the last 8 years. I disagree--what they want is for both parties to stop demonizing each other, start "listening to each other", as this lady says, and fucking get something done for the good of the country. Obama's biggest strength is his welcoming attitude towards ALL Americans, no matter what their political stripe.

This is my first Primary season as a DUer and they say it calms way down once the nom is selected and everyone pulls together.

24. After many phone calls
I think you are mainly right even if I shake my head at the strength of the niceness voters. One bloody foray against someone instigating ALL the attacks somehow turns these people off against their choice. One successful guy in NY took the slander with genteel ease and it fell on its face. It doesn't always do that and fighting back loses you the faint of heart. My guy slugged back, they got dirtier, people fell for the negativity insofar as not eve wanting to vote! Then the fake phone jamming. This is all thanks to horrible media spin.

I think it is a bigger draw than those informed and angry for change, a considerable number as well and also testy enough to abandon ship.

Nothing is that easy but yes it is a good broad appeal indeed. When the GOP starts the demonizing the net effect is that it works with this crowd particularly, unless it backfires- on it own. As Kerry found, that does not always happen.

If Obama wins we have to get our noggins around the inevitable. Be nice, but solidify.

16. Music to my eyes! I wish all the people trashing Obama for being inclusive would read this
I swear, they want a candidate who runs around screaming "Republicans suck!" all over the place. Not a winning strategy. Sorry, but Rage Against the Machine isn't running for President this year.

It's a paradox that while people overwhelmingly prefer progressive policies, more people think of themselves as conservative than liberal. So when you trash conservatives, or Republican leaders and policies, independents (who may have voted for many a Repub candidate) and moderate Rs think you're talking about them. Thus, when Obama talks about 'reaching across the aisle' people like Nancy quoted in the article feel that he's reaching out to her.
