Edwards keeps going, and going, and going...
Edwards keeps going, and going, and going...
By Jim Tankersley--"The Swamp" Baltimore Sun blog
Monday, January 7, 2008

----
HAMPTON, N.H. – The Energizer Bunny has nothing on John Edwards.

The former senator is showing few signs of strain while barnstorming New Hampshire on a bus tour that began at mid-day Sunday and isn't scheduled to end until early Tuesday morning – his second up-all-night pre-vote blitz in the span of a week.

On a day when Barack Obama lost his voice and Hillary Clinton fought back tears, Edwards appeared at a late-afternoon rally in Hampton, on the seacoast, with his dark suit crisp, his hair unruffled and his voice largely intact. Campaign aides and reporters sleepwalked in ahead of him, some still recovering from Edwards' overnight bus tour leading into last week's Iowa caucuses.

The only signs of fatigue in Edwards were the occasional rasps in his southern twang and a slightly toned-down delivery of his still-fiery populist stump speech.

"Tonight, 47 million people will go to bed knowing if their child gets sick, they will have to go to the emergency room to beg for coverage," Edwards said, in a familiar riff from his anti-corporate, heavy-on-the-middle-class pitch. "Tomorrow morning, 37 million people will wake up in America, living in poverty and literally worrying about clothing and feeding their children."

Edwards urged the 100-odd supporters in a high school entryway to follow his lead and work hard to spread his gospel to friends and neighbors before polls close tomorrow night.

"You can ignite, here, tomorrow, a wave of change that sweeps across this country and literally can't be stopped," he said. In closing, he again declared himself an underdog: "We have an opportunity tomorrow," he said. "Nobody expects us to do anything. We're going to surprise people tomorrow."

In a brief interview after the event, Edwards said he was running on 30 to 60 minutes sleep, without the benefit of caffeine but with the aid of experience. "I've done this before," he said. "That's the secret … I'll get to sleep tonight."

A supporter stopped Edwards in front of his campaign bus and introduced him to a New Zealand diplomat, who was in town for the rally. The diplomat pumped Edwards' hand. "I don't know how you do it," he said, "but you're holding up well."

6. The question I asked is WHY? I can appreciate him staying in
the race through super tuesday but I cannot understand why it is, the edwards and obama supporters want hrc do drop out before this event.

You know this race is not over. I am totally convinced hrc will be the nominee...and why would i say that...lets try this out...say obama wins nh and sc....now we have three states left in janaury...nevada michigan and florida....oh lets say hrc wins in nevada and then goes and defeats obama and edwards in michigan and then we all head south to florida.....the mediawhores will have to take notice of the win, especially in michigan. And it will be lots of mediawhore coverage for the florida vote...hrc wins florida and now we head into super tuesday and the mo is with hrc...

So lets let all candidates stay in and see what happens...

12. No, probably pro integrity and someone that can actually use their
past votes as proof of great decision making ability as well as proof that they hold their positions for more than a year or two and then change them......according to whichever way the political wind blows.

13. Edwards' real strength is his lifelong battle against corporations
He has consistently taken them on and beaten them. I find that compelling.

23. Yeah, I agree with you, that is compelling. JE just needs more to
his resume' than fighting corporations. Being POTUS involves a great deal more than that. Like deciding when we go to war, like how to deal with Bankruptcy in this country (JE voted supported making Bankruptcy much more devastating for the "common folk", like securing our rights as American citizens and not initiating the Patriot Act, (which JE voted for)...... Sorry, but his record of recent isn't too impressive.

19. You're kidding, right?
Edwards? Anti-corporate?

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

Did you also believe * when he said he was an isolationist?

I've researched Edwards pretty thoroughly - his entire professional and political career and can only conclude that he is simply a liar. Have you checked to see which corporate c@cksuckers are actually paying him to run? Take a peek at opensecrets.org. If Edwards qualifies as "anti-corporate," then so do HRC and Obama. Have you checked and looked at his dismal, REgressive voting record? It's just plain ugly, and available at votesmart.org. Patriot Act, Homeland Security Act, Authority to Use Force, Bankruptcy Bill, etc...Checked out the WSJ nd WaPo to look at his feeble and dishonest answers to the hedge fund/subprime lender flap? Disgraceful.

I want Edwards out because the Dems just don't need another liar, talking like a Democrat and voting like a Republican, in the running for President this time. There are more than enough on the other side. The Dems don't need him hamstringing the eventual nominee as VeeP this time either.
