NBA still smiling about Edwards run.
There's something about Sen. John Edwards and basketball. Edwards' presidential campaign has received several contributions from NBA coaches, executives and players. The latest to join the fold are two players for the Toronto Raptors: Jalen Rose, a former Michigan Wolverine, and Eric Montross, a former UNC star. The two players, whose teams squared off for the NCAA title in 1993, each contributed $2,000 in January, campaign finance reports filed late Friday show.

Edwards also received a $2,000 contribution from James Irsay, owner of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts.

1. Basketball is HUGE in the Carolinas
so it doesn't surprise me. Plus I hear JE has a nasty crossover.

5. Edwards is a huge Tarheels fan
He goes to as many of the games as he can. When you're a Sen., You meet a lot of athletes that way.

6. I believe... all three
have an Indiana connection...

Irsay - well - he owns the colts
Rose - played a number of years for the Pacers
Montrose... I believe... played high school basketball in Indiana.

So why having hoosier connections would have anything to do with anything is beyond me... but my trivial minded self - had to share that I believe there is, indeed, a connection.

9. but where did he play before UNC
Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 07:39 PM by salin
high school basketball... I believe in Indianapolis.

Edit - added... : I don't think the Indiana connection has anything to do with this... but the question (eg what do the three have in common/connection) was asked... and my trivia brained self (and hoosier basketball reared) - had to point out this hoosier connection :D

15. Well, he talked of running for
Governor of AB as a Repug. And he was on the cover of SI once with a headline that called him a Black Republican. Why would you say he was never a Republican??

21. Because he has repeatedly said he's never been a republican
and that the belief about him being a republican stemmed from a story in which he recounted about him asking his grandmother why they all voted democratic, she said republicans are for rich people, and he said "I'm rich"
