Edwards was a no show at NH events last night.
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 10:26 AM by bunnies
Would have been nice if they had at least updated the website or sent people emails or something. We rsvp'd for two events last night and double checked the site before we left. Yet got there only to find out the events had been canceled. It was a *real* disappointment. Especially considering we were just coming off our Obama high.

The reason we were finally given was that he was too tired. Im sure he was... but he left a bad taste in some voters mouths nonetheless.

On edit for everyone: 9:20pm at Democracy Now in Somersworth NH and 10:15 at the Rochester NH Edwards HQ.

Do you believe showing a flash of emotion speaks against Hillary's ability to be President? Be out front about this please.

Was she incoherent in her reply? Did she fail to keep any of her committments to the public? Did she slip away from the campaign trail to compose herself or did she go right on strenuously campaining?

38. I think it speaks for her, actually
It was humanizing. Not that I didn't know that about her personality. I think the long term campaign strategy they'd adopted had hidden this aspect from the voters and the attempts recently to make her "likable" had seemed strained. This seemed to me a genuine caring expression of emotion or exhaustion. In either case, it hurt her not a bit. I think its wide coverage in NH will do her some good today. Your point that she picked herself up (not that that took so much doing) and rallied forth is a good one as a response to those who want to portray her as weak and incapable.

So Hillary can't tear up but Edwards can be a no-show. Hmmm....

"I think what we need in a commander-in-chief is strength and resolve, and presidential campaigns are tough business, but being president of the United States is also tough business. And the United States is faced with very difficult challenges every single day and difficult judgments every single day. What I know is that I'm prepared for that and I'm in this fight for the middle class and for the future of this country for the long haul, through the convention and straight to the White House." Except for when I'm tired....

Now the OP acknowledges that Edwards made several of the events scheduled. The original OP stated Edwards missed all his evening appointments. The OP still maintains, however, that there was some unidentified event that Edwards missed that she, as an Obama supporter was hoping to attend. I don't believe her. Why would an Obama supporter, willing to make up lies about Edwards' attendance or nonattendance at events, be looking forward to attending an Edwards event? I don't buy it.

a bad name by their behavior.

DU has become infested with them. I wouldn't be surprised if Karl Rove was behind all this.

I think this crowd of juvenile asswipes is in for a rude awakening - since Obama won Iowa, the Repukes have changed their game from attacking Hillary, and are now preparing for a full frontal assault on Obama. When that day comes, it's going to get really ugly - even uglier than the behavior of the DU Obama supporters - and we're going to see that these juvenile asswipes like to dish it out but can't take it once the Repukes go after them.

All-action Edwards works round the clock
All-action Edwards works round the clock

Presidential candidates often call on America to "wake up", but John Edwards is bringing that message to voters literally.

It may not be showing in the opinion polls, but the Democratic contender is attempting to win votes from an unusual demographic: insomniacs.

How else do you explain a hyperactive itinerary that saw Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, make a total of 13 appearances across snow-bound New Hampshire today, running deep into the night and not pausing even in the early hours of the morning.

The couple launched a whirlwind 36-hour bus tour of the state, beginning on Sunday and ending in the early hours of today - the day polls open.

Those on the late shift or unable to sleep were able to meet Edwards at 2am today in Berlin, a small town practically in Canada, where around 30 hardy supporters turned out.

If that was too early - or too late - then the awake and curious could still have caught up with the Democratic contender and his wife in Littleton, a city on the border with Vermont, at Miller's Cafe at 4am.

There, Elizabeth Edwards told 20 supporters that her husband was in it for the long haul - if that wasn't already obvious.

Early birds joined the pair at the more civilised hour of 6.30am at the Daddy Pops Tumble Inn Diner in Claremont. There, according to one blogger, Edwards told customers they should judge him by his exhausting schedule. "It is exactly what I will do when I am president," he added.

45. This was the night BEFORE last NOT last night.
That 2AM rally was the reason I was given for him NOT showing up last night. Do yourself a favor and read the thread.

51. You can't really get all uppity considering it's your wording in the OP
that is causing all the confusion.

58. How is my wording confusing?
"We rsvp'd for two events last night and double checked the site before we left. Yet got there only to find out the events had been canceled. "

I then listed the times and places of the events. Confusing how?

61. In the OP you said "last night"
then in a post above you said "the night before".

Which is it?

73. The events he missed were last night.
The post above was in response to an article that was talking about events held the night before.

HAMPTON, N.H. – The Energizer Bunny has nothing on John Edwards.

The former senator is showing few signs of strain while barnstorming New Hampshire on a bus tour that began at mid-day Sunday and isn't scheduled to end until early Tuesday morning – his second up-all-night pre-vote blitz in the span of a week.

On a day when Barack Obama lost his voice and Hillary Clinton fought back tears, Edwards appeared at a late-afternoon rally in Hampton, on the seacoast, with his dark suit crisp, his hair unruffled and his voice largely intact. Campaign aides and reporters sleepwalked in ahead of him, some still recovering from Edwards' overnight bus tour leading into last week's Iowa caucuses.

The only signs of fatigue in Edwards were the occasional rasps in his southern twang and a slightly toned-down delivery of his still-fiery populist stump speech.

"Tonight, 47 million people will go to bed knowing if their child gets sick, they will have to go to the emergency room to beg for coverage," Edwards said, in a familiar riff from his anti-corporate, heavy-on-the-middle-class pitch. "Tomorrow morning, 37 million people will wake up in America, living in poverty and literally worrying about clothing and feeding their children."

Edwards urged the 100-odd supporters in a high school entryway to follow his lead and work hard to spread his gospel to friends and neighbors before polls close tomorrow night.

"You can ignite, here, tomorrow, a wave of change that sweeps across this country and literally can't be stopped," he said. In closing, he again declared himself an underdog: "We have an opportunity tomorrow," he said. "Nobody expects us to do anything. We're going to surprise people tomorrow."

In a brief interview after the event, Edwards said he was running on 30 to 60 minutes sleep, without the benefit of caffeine but with the aid of experience. "I've done this before," he said. "That's the secret … I'll get to sleep tonight."

A supporter stopped Edwards in front of his campaign bus and introduced him to a New Zealand diplomat, who was in town for the rally. The diplomat pumped Edwards' hand. "I don't know how you do it," he said, "but you're holding up well."

43. What the fuck are you talking about?
The events mentioned in that article were MUCH earlier than the ones we went to. I dont need to make shit up about your candidate, thank you very much. Did you contact the fucking venues in my OP and check my "story" out? No. You didnt. Now you have the gall to call me a liar? Come at me with facts or STFU. :nuke:

57. He made an almost impossible commitment
I don't know why he felt he needed to, but I can understand why it's hard for him to keep up his schedule.

87. He was up for a whole lot o hours in Iowa, and look how he compares to other candidates here!

Given the number of showings that he's been to in New Hampshire compared to everyone else, it's hard to complain that he isn't trying to get to see as many folk as possible. Compared to what is showing for Hillary and Obama, they were on vacation.
