Edwards does not make the ballot in Rhode Island
Edited on Mon Dec-29-03 10:12 PM by wndycty
I hate to post this because I really like Edwards. I take no pleasure in posting this. Those of you who are in states that require signatures bust your you know what to go out and collect for whomever your candidate is.

7 Democrats qualify for March primary ballot in R.I.; Bush lone Republican

Seven Democratic contenders -- but not North Carolina Sen. John Edwards -- have qualified for the March 2 Rhode Island presidential primary, according to the secretary of state's office.

Candidates were required to submit 1,000 signatures of Rhode Island voters to qualify for the state primary, which is typically overshadowed by more celebrated and earlier primaries and caucuses, such as those scheduled for Jan. 19 in Iowa and Jan. 27 in New Hampshire.

Edwards was the only major Democratic aspirant who did not qualify. Those who did include perennial candidate Lyndon H. Larouche; former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean; Rep. Dick Gephardt, of Missouri; Sen. John Kerry, of Massachusetts; Sen. Joseph Lieberman, of Connecticut; Rep. Dennis Kucinich, of Ohio, and retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark, of Arkansas.

2. When Lyndon LaRouche makes the ballot,
and Edwards doesn't, that's bad.

5. Rhode Islanders obviously don't appreciate elitist know-it-all Southerners
coming up to their state and telling them how to run things.

8. Will Kerry make the ballot in NC?
Not as far as I know. Just seems like some candidates are willing to give up some states without a fight.

9. That's unfortunate.
How difficult could it have been to get 1,000 signatures? Was there an alternate way he could have gotten on the ballot? Here in Kansas it takes 1,000 signatures or $1,000. For what it's worth, Dean is planning on being the only candidate ever in this state to get the signatures rather than pay. I've personally collected about 30 signatures, and I need to go get more.
