2. I would LOVE that ticket...
But people would attack it for being too liberal. Obama is already liberal himself, and doesn't shy away from the term. I could see the MSM's head exploding now...

No way that ticket comes to fruition, although it's fun to dream about it.

7. Feingold would have made a dandy candidate
I would have loved to cast a vote for him.
But he didn't want to run--and I am guessing that included a run for the VP.

11. Feingold has said he would accept the VP spot.
As far as not wanting to run, he did want to run but did not see the point in futilely tilting at windmills with no chance of winning the nomination. The Democratic Party already has it own windmill tilter. Feingold just wants to be the best senator he can be and I am proud to have him as one of mine. Like Bill Proxmire, Feingold will be reelected here in Wisconsin as long as he wants to run.

8. Obama-Webb
If it is Obama then we will need somebody to help in red states and rural areas. Webb a converted republican is tough as nails and has more military medals than McCain.

9. Exciting, yes. But geographically brings little to the table.
Feingold would probably find greater enjoyment in sending three bills a day to Obama's desk for signature.

laughed out loud! I'm not trying to be mean, but Feingold is a liberal and I would say pretty far to the left of Obama!

13. So I wonder why they work together so well?
http://obama.senate.gov/press/060630-obama_feingold/

U.S. Senators Barack Obama (D-IL) and Russ Feingold (D-WI) have introduced a resolution to put into effect immediately the new ethics rules that the Senate passed earlier this year as part of lobbying reform legislation. While the Senate passed legislation containing a number of ethics reforms in March by a vote of 90-8, those reforms will not take effect until the bill goes through the conference process and is signed into law by the President. The fate of lobbying reform is very much in doubt as the House has yet to even appoint conferees. The Feingold-Obama resolution, if passed by the Senate, will put the new ethics rules in place immediately, as those rule changes do not need to be signed into law.

A statement just out from Sens. Barack Obama (D-IL) and Russ Feingold (D-WI) after their opposition to Hans von Spakovsky's nomination scuttled a deal to move von Spakovsky quickly through the Senate:

“While at the Department of Justice, Hans von Spakovsky was directly involved in efforts to politicize the Department and use the Voting Rights Section to disenfranchise voters, rather than enforce our nation’s civil rights laws. As a recess appointee to the FEC he has been a committed, ideological opponent of the campaign finance laws he is supposed to enforce. Putting him at the head of the FEC is just another example of this administration putting the fox in charge of the hen house. We oppose his nomination, and any effort to tie his nomination to the other pending nominations to the FEC.”

16. Interview in The Nation:
What happens if it develops that the 2008 Democratic nominee taps Feingold as his or her running mate?

"I feel that's an obligation almost. If the nominee of my party sits down with his advisers and says 'Feingold's the guy,' I think it's pretty hard to say 'no.' I think you have a duty," he says. "There would be cases that would be harder than others to do it. I don't think that will ever happen, but I would be ready to do it if asked."

said no such thing recently, besides the fact that POTUS nominees select their running mates at the convention so this seems like more "perception management" crap.

on edit: consider that it's from The Nation and right after the midterms-I'm sure Russ was more interested in Rumsfeld's "resignation"...

20. Feingold said he would have to think about it when he was in my hometown.
http://www.lacrossetribune.com/articles/2006/11/21/news/02feingold21.txt

November 21, 2006

"Feingold focusing on Senate work, won’t rule out VP role
By REID MAGNEY | La Crosse Tribune

.
ONALASKA, Wis. — U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold admitted Monday he’d have to seriously think about it if asked to be a presidential running mate."
--------snip--------

He also said things about impeachment which many here would not like:

"One thing Feingold expressed no enthusiasm for is impeaching President Bush.

“I don’t support impeachment, and I don’t support impeachment hearings, even though I think the president has probably committed an impeachable offense,” Feingold said in response to a question from Al Schulz of La Crosse.

“We are not required to impeach the president simply because he’s committed an impeachable offense, which I think he did with the illegal wiretapping. We have to decide whether it’s in the best interest of the country to go through that process.”

Also, according to ranking of the most liberal senators, Obama was ranked #10 being more liberal than 86% of the senate and Feingold was #15 being more liberal than 84.5%.

24. Again, that was just after the 2006 midterms-not recently.
I don't think there is any face validity to any instrument that claims to measure a Senator's liberality either.

Last time I was in Onalaska it was to get my driver's license renewed.
