Occam's Razor or Why Clinton's moment of emotion wasn't staged
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 10:57 PM by cali
It's simple. What these folks are doing is mentally, physically and spiritually draining. They are running on fumes and ambition. You can hear it in their voices which are worn thin with overuse and exhaustion. For Clinton having fallen so swiftly from front runner status, it's even worse.

Clinton got asked a kind question which triggered something in her. And she got a little emotional. Her voice cracked a bit. She didn't cry. She didn't break down.

And here's where Occam's good old blade comes in: What could be less surprising than a candidate becoming emotional for a moment in this pressure cooker?

The idea that this is some elaborate hoax meant to deceive the voter is so much horsepucky or something like that. I don't like her bringing up terror but trying to relate it to this episode is just lame.

I hope there's some karma coming down for some of you regarding the garbage you've thrown out at Clinton.

2. thank you, cali
we don't always agree, but I do sincerely appreciate your thoughts and simple human kindness on this issue. It's a nice change from what GD has been today.

Thank you.

3. And because the cameras are trained on them 24/7...
... they're pushing for a gaffe, slip-up, mistake, or just raw human emotion to Britneyize, whatever, just so they have something for headline news.

It really is sickening.

4. Let me just say this..if she didn't plan it....
it was the most timely and advantageous mistake ever made in the history of politics.

The OP proves this. Days ago Cali had disowned Hillary, now she's back to being her defender.

Mark Penn is amazing.

7. I've never disowned her. I don't suport her, but I've always
defended her from the fox news/wingnut attacks that are coming from people who have the nerve to say they're progressives. And I'm glad I do. You're a meanspirited little sort and you evidently haven't a clue about basic human dignity. And your comment about timing was about as pointless as virtually everything I've ever seen you write.

11. Yes Cali, getting the narrative back to her the day before the election has nothing to with timing
You got me there.

:wtf:

9. Well, maybe...but my wife and I caught it on the news tonight -
when we saw the Hillary clip, my wife - who is not a political junkie, would love to see a woman president, and is very liberal, made a face and just said "oh come on, give me a break". We are in the AD camp - Any Dem - in this election, but the Clintonian triangulation has worn thin for us...we would support her as the nominee, of course, but she is not tops for us.

15. yes, my huband did the same!
Well, if it was staged, it was a risky move, because it'll boost some people's opinions but equally annoy other people. Mark Penn is certainly no genius though, and I have a sneaking suspicion that he was taken out of the loop a few days ago!

10. An Edmund Muskie moment is political suicide....
For those of us who remember Senator Edmund Muskie of Maine (Hubert Humphrey's running mate in 1968 for you youngsters), we saw a good and decent man lose his chance at the presidency with an unguarded expression of emotion.

Making a bid to become POTUS is a ridiculously high stakes poker game. It's like walking a tightrope across the Grand Canyon while pushing a wheelbarrow. You've gotta do it and smile and look at ease while watching every step every second. If you can't handle it, it's no disgrace really. You have to be a little nuts to even try it.

12. Hillary will make a find President. I send her all my Best Wishes tonight.
It's going to take a lot of experience to fix the mess this admin is leaving the government/this nation in. I want Hillary's team to lead us out. An Obama or Edwards government would be chaos for 4 years. They voted for bush because he was an outsider and would 'change Washington'....look at the horror that was wraught.

17. Yes! Because the DLC has such a stunning track record for ...
leading us out of chaos.

They have steadfastly stood strong against NAFTA.
The Patriot Act.
The Iraq War.

....wait a minute....

13. I do agree with this
My gut feeling was also that this wasn't staged. I'm usually pretty hard on Hillary, I admit, but again, I don't think it was staged either, she just sounded tired.

20. So much so that it can cause someone like Lieberman to become a turn coat
I can't stand Lieberman but you can bet your ass he was crushed when his own party rejected him. And now like a kid who has no parents he joins a gang for a feeling of family. The Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, George Bush dip shit gang.

and she is human.

I can't believe I am going to do this but as nut-case Dr. Laura would say to Hillary: "Now go take on the day."
