If the last one was any indication, Nevada presidential debates can be raucous affairs -- complete with heckling audience members and flummoxed hosts.
On Jan. 15, four days before the caucus, the Democratic presidential contenders will return to Las Vegas for a nationally televised debate. The field will be smaller this time, but the stakes likely will be higher, as Nevada is shaping up to be a final showdown for some of the frontrunners.
This go round, Nevadans will have a better chance to participate in the debate. The party is in the midst of raffling off debate hall tickets. You can join the lottery at www.januarydebate.com/tickets
The deadline is Wednesday.
The debate sponsors also are soliciting question ideas. The forum, sponsored by a coalition of Hispanic and African-
American advocacy groups, is meant to focus on issues important to those communities, such as economic opportunities, education, access to health care and immigration.
Questions can be submitted at www.januarydebate.com
The debate will be shown on MSNBC. Hosts will include Brian Williams and Tim Russert, who has made an art of both finding the contradictions between candidates' messages and their records and of creating the perfect query to knock them off their rehearsed lines.
