I have decided to support John Edwards.
I was really lukewarm about him until I started watching the campaign trail this weekend. Edwards won me over. I had a real problem with his vote in favor of the IWR and I had vowed to NOT support anyone who had voted in favor of this. However, Edwards is so outstanding on so many other areas, that I can accept his apology that he made a mistake.

IMO, the biggest problem facing our nation today is health insurance and the way the fucking insurance companies rape everyone. I do believe that John Edwards will make a big difference in this area.

I also believe that John Edwards is VERY electable and he would stand the best chance against any of the Repiggies and, let's face it, anyone of them would be as bad as ~~ if not worse than ~~ Bush and our nation deserves better than that!

FWIW....:hi:

1. Welcome to the fold!
I took a relatively long time to decide on Edwards, but the more I saw of him, the more I liked. I get the distinct feeling that he really means it when he said "It's personal for me."

3. I am in the very same place as you....and, yeah, it took me awhile to decide.
I have really, really been impressed by him the last few days. When I watched CSpan today and he mentioned Cigna by name and what they did on denying that liver transplant, the pretty much sealed the deal for me to support Edwards.

IMO, he pulls NO punches and is not aligned with corporate America. He is the one for me. I am sending his campaign a donation tomorrow.

:hi:

8. I agree
If I can't believe a candidate means what they say, the aren't going to get my vote. Edwards makes me feel like we have a real chance at taking our country back from the "corporate" interests that "own" D.C.!

7. My pleasure and I am sooooooooo glad I found someone I could support.
I have been so turned off during most of this election, but Edwards got me this weekend. He is a fine man and a fine candidate and he will make a great POTUS.

10. IMO, you are correct....
...I watched him talk about Elizabeth and what she and others personally and through their children have gone through and he brought tears to my eyes. I can see why he won big in the courtroom for the little guys.

Bless him...he really does care and it is genuine.

11. I am so excited that I finally AM excited about a candidate!
I was sooooooo worried that this coming November would be another LDA election for me ~~ Least Detrimental Alternative. For far too many years, I have gone to the polls solely to vote AGAINST someone or something. After watching Edwards this weekend, I really want to go and vote for him. What a wonderful feeling.

LOL...and here I was upset cuz I had a nice weekend planned and canceled everything cuz I came down with a horrible head cold. Some times, funny how things just seem to work out!

9. Welcome!
I think you made the right choice.

Edwards isn't perfect, and I also do not agree with everything he's done, but I do feel he's the best choice for the next President. He's smart, and he has the guts to tell the big corporations that enough is enough. I truly believe he will shake up the health care industry, get our troops out of this senseless war in Iraq, restore America's reputation around the world, and return our rights and liberties to us that Bush took away.

We will need someone strong, and we will need someone who is not compromised by lobbyist money. We need our government to start working for the people again - all of us, regardless of income - and Edwards is the guy to do it.

...that is pretty much how I feel. He is the real deal ~~ not perfect...but very much for real. After all the years of the crap we have had in the WH from BushCo...that is soooooo refreshing!

14. I'm of two minds.
On the one hand, I like Edwards the Progressive: he's saying the right things these days, talking the talk, and maybe he really means most of it. Certainly, we've been waiting a long time for a dynamic, electable populist-progressive to come along, and neither Hillary nor Obama fit the bill, God knows. On the other hand, Edwards' history as a U.S. Senator was distinguished largely by his co-sponsorship (along with Bush enabler-in-chief Joe Lieberman) of the IWR, the end result of which has been the second worst foreign policy disaster in U.S. history, after the Vietnam war. I know he's said his mea culpas, but nothing he can do or say will bring back the 4,000 American dead, heal the 30,000 American wounded, or justify the 600,000-plus dead Iraqis, and the utter destruction of their country. If I was complicit in the Iraq debacle to the extent that Edwards is, I don't think I'd be able to show my face in public, much less run for president. I guess what I'm wishing for is some way to graft Edwards' populist-progressivism onto Obama's history of opposing the war. Lots of luck, right?

15. We know who we are....
Edited on Sun Jan-06-08 11:24 PM by ClericJohnPreston
I am beginning to know the names of my amigos on this board, as I am new, and who are in agreement with me about Edwards.

My joining his ranks is personal to me, being in his former field and battling insurance companies EVERY DAY. I know these beasts very well and you can't capitulate or shake hands with them.

Obama's beliefs are those of someone incredibly naive, or worse, totally disingenuous while taking CORPORATE INSURANCE DOLLARS, and lying about his N.H. campaign advisor being a lobbyist for the industry ( see transcript of N.H. debate ).

23. a good leader can admit mistakes and change course. Why we hate
b and c so much is they never admit they are wrong and never change course. I support Edwards but Obama has appeal to. Hil is out.

24. What worries me about Edwards is that he waited to "change course"
until the moment the war became a loser in the polls. Given that timing, the appearance was that he'd had a conversion of convenience rather than the real thing.
