Job losses cause voter restlessness in Pennsylvania
Wednesday, February 25, 2004

BY PETER L. DeCOURSEY
Of The Patriot-News

The last times Pennsylvania voters showed the depth of worry revealed in the new Keystone Poll, an incumbent president and a gubernatorial front-runner lost their next elections, poll director G. Terry Madonna said.

"Right now, Pennsylvanians are blaming the governor and the president for not increasing jobs," Madonna said. "And unlike the governor, the president is running for re-election in November. It would be a daunting task to get re-elected if these numbers stay where they are."

Madonna said the poll, which is sponsored by The Patriot-News and other news organizations, showed Pennsylvania voters are continuing to defy the trend that voter confidence rises during economic recoveries.

President Bush's job rating fell sharply in the last year, the poll shows. Gov. Ed Rendell's job-approval ratings are at their lowest level, even after finally passing his first budget.

1. Yeah, Blue collar states are bound to be mad.
That might mean we could lose some Dem governors, though. :(
