23. Now he just has to
stutter a lot, tussle his hair, and look vulnerable.

And pick up hookers.

Not very presidential.

John Lennon, and Gary Oldman, behind Hugh Grant, playing one of the "Three Musketeers". What enormous fun!

2. I loved Colson's secret memo
Colson, in a secret memo, revealed he had a mission to target Kerry: "Destroy the young demagogue before he becomes another Ralph Nader."

Seeing that today, the multiple levels of irony are making me dizzy.

You DID see the Exorcist, right? I can do that rather well :puke:

I don't know which is the more sickening comparison, Kerry to JFK or Kerry to Lennon. I can tell you for a fact that neither of them consider it flattering.

7. Pathetic the way he has to appeal to progressives
by promoting himself as who he was, not who he is.

I really hate this guy.

9. Yeah, right.
I truly am tired of people hating Kerry, because he is not some (non-existent) person the writer would prefer. St. Ralph, perhaps?

Kerry is a good guy, with flaws. Just like Bill Clinton - who of course was all the bad things this writer claims about Kerry. Oh, wait, Clinton was a great president.

Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 02:33 AM by WitchWay
If everyone is so okay with a president not being "pure" (as in being an imperialistic, corporate, fascist, sell out), then no one should have a problem with George W. Bush, after all.

Just consider the alternative as a lame duck with 4 more years to rob and pillage this country.I will be supporting John Kerry and am actually pretty damn excited about what I've been seeing and hearing both in print and on the air.

24. You need to drop the bitterness...
... because it's totally useless to hang onto it. And by the way, it would seem that he doesn't have to do this to appeal to progressives.

28. perhaps...
But you really need to consider what the average American wants in a President. Most swing voters would never vote for someone like Dean, someone who speaks out at all costs. Middle America is uncomfortable with what they perceive to be a radical loudmouth.

I think that Kerry has just been politically astute. He let Dean spout off and implode, then coopted Dean's message in a tone that's more palatable to the average voter. Yeah, it's slimey and tough to get behind, but that's political Darwinism at work.

We here at DU do not represent the ideals that Americans want in a president. You're an outsider - deal with it.

30. You see this is resignation
Why fucking bother if political realities will perpetually be dictated by the machine that dictates what they are? They throw crumbs or toss a bone if they sense the pack getting testy, but then they revert back to their agenda. Who determines what the average American wants in a president--or what is electable--that is all manufactured, and until we gain greater influence we will never have more than a vote against. Never a vote for.

32. maybe...
But until middle America sees things the way we do we will not have the influence we'd like. It's not unlike t.v. programming - everything is dumbed downed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. We are not the LCD, and until the average American is speaking our language, we will continue to be outsiders. It sucks but it's true.
