56. Obama voted for President Bush's energy bill, top priorities - expanding Nafta to South America
Obama voted for President Bush's energy bill, increasing hardship for families
I wish one of his opponents would repeat these votes one after another in a speech:

Obama voted for President Bush's energy bill, sending more than $13 billion in subsidies and tax breaks to oil, coal, and nuclear companies. Obama voted with Republicans to allow credit card companies to raise interest rates over 30 percent, increasing hardship for families on the brink. Obama voted for one of President Bush's top priorities - expanding Nafta to South America - even as President Bush obstructed all the top Democratic priorities.

Obama voted with Bush to make it harder for ordinary people to hold big corporations accountable when they do things like sell toxic toys, poisonous pet food, or just plain rip you off.

Obama was the Senate's biggest Democratic advocate of subsidies for liquid coal, even though liquid coal produces twice the global warming pollution of the crude oil it's meant to replace (Obama "backed off" this position after being pummeled by environmentalists for several months, but still, along with Clinton, voted for increased subsidies, albeit with conditions).

55. You need to learn that Americans never vote based on
issues. They vote based on likeability and heart. It has always been thus. Plus Americans love a winner or who they perceive a winner to be. It is how we've gotten in so much trouble.

Let me ask you a question. I know that JFK Jr never really wanted to be President, but stop and think, even though this guy failed the bar exam, what, three times, and really had no interest in politics, had he opened his mouth and said "I want to be President" how fast do you think he would have been annointed? Seriously. Faster than your head can spin.

It's what we do......................

53. The OP is an outright LIAR
You can read Mr. Obama's social security position here:

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/socialsecurity/

Some relevant text to judge the OP's complete lack of honesty and honor:

Protect Social Security

Obama is committed to ensuring Social Security is solvent and viable for the American people, now and in the future. Obama will be honest with the American people about the long-term solvency of Social Security and the ways we can address the shortfall. Obama will protect Social Security benefits for current and future beneficiaries alike. And he does not believe it is necessary or fair to hardworking seniors to raise the retirement age. Obama is strongly opposed to privatizing Social Security.

Regarding SS - he has never stated that he wants to privatize it.

11/27/07
http://www.annistonstar.com/opinion/2007/as-editorials-1127-editorial-7k26s0931.htm

...Most of the candidates, including frontrunners Rudy Giuliani and Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, have come out in favor of a bipartisan commission to identify the problem (if there is one) and offer a solution. While this gives candidates a way to address the issue without actually discussing it, Obama has decided not to “duck and cover.”

Instead, he has suggested that the issue of solvency can be solved by lifting the income cap that next year will exempt from payroll taxes all annual incomes of more than $102,000.

This proposal has an obvious populist appeal, for more than 93 percent of all workers would see no increase in taxes. And, it has been noted, those in the higher income brackets can well afford to pay the extra.

On the other hand, it is a tax increase, which Republicans (and some Democrats) have made it clear that they will not support, even if the bipartisan commission recommends it.

But will the majority of Americans support it? Will the majority of Americans lobby Congress to adopt this or some other source of income to guarantee that the nation will be able to make good on its promises to its senior citizens?

Obama’s answer may not be the solution we need, but at least he has brought the matter out from behind the doors of a yet-to-be-created bipartisan commission and dared the other candidates to come up with something better — if they can. We can thank him for that.

Obama believes that the first place to look for ways to strengthen Social Security is the payroll tax system. Currently, the Social Security payroll tax applies to only the first $97,500 a worker makes. Obama supports increasing the maximum amount of earnings covered by Social Security and he will work with Congress and the American people to choose a payroll tax reform package that will keep Social Security solvent for at least the next half century.

Barack Obama's Plan
Quality, Affordable and Portable Coverage for All

* Obama's Plan to Cover Uninsured Americans: Obama will make available a new national health plan to all Americans, including the self-employed and small businesses, to buy affordable health coverage that is similar to the plan available to members of Congress. The Obama plan will have the following features:
1. Guaranteed eligibility. No American will be turned away from any insurance plan because of illness or pre-existing conditions.
2. Comprehensive benefits. The benefit package will be similar to that offered through Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP), the plan members of Congress have. The plan will cover all essential medical services, including preventive, maternity and mental health care.
3. Affordable premiums, co-pays and deductibles.
4. Subsidies. Individuals and families who do not qualify for Medicaid or SCHIP but still need financial assistance will receive an income-related federal subsidy to buy into the new public plan or purchase a private health care plan.
5. Simplified paperwork and reined in health costs.
6. Easy enrollment. The new public plan will be simple to enroll in and provide ready access to coverage.
7. Portability and choice. Participants in the new public plan and the National Health Insurance Exchange (see below) will be able to move from job to job without changing or jeopardizing their health care coverage.
8. Quality and efficiency. Participating insurance companies in the new public program will be required to report data to ensure that standards for quality, health information technology and administration are being met.
* National Health Insurance Exchange: The Obama plan will create a National Health Insurance Exchange to help individuals who wish to purchase a private insurance plan. The Exchange will act as a watchdog group and help reform the private insurance market by creating rules and standards for participating insurance plans to ensure fairness and to make individual coverage more affordable and accessible. Insurers would have to issue every applicant a policy, and charge fair and stable premiums that will not depend upon health status. The Exchange will require that all the plans offered are at least as generous as the new public plan and have the same standards for quality and efficiency. The Exchange would evaluate plans and make the differences among the plans, including cost of services, public.
* Employer Contribution: Employers that do not offer or make a meaningful contribution to the cost of quality health coverage for their employees will be required to contribute a percentage of payroll toward the costs of the national plan. Small employers that meet certain revenue thresholds will be exempt.
* Mandatory Coverage of Children: Obama will require that all children have health care coverage. Obama will expand the number of options for young adults to get coverage, including allowing young people up to age 25 to continue coverage through their parents' plans.
* Expansion Of Medicaid and SCHIP: Obama will expand eligibility for the Medicaid and SCHIP programs and ensure that these programs continue to serve their critical safety net function.
* Flexibility for State Plans: Due to federal inaction, some states have taken the lead in health care reform. The Obama plan builds on these efforts and does not replace what states are doing. States can continue to experiment, provided they meet the minimum standards of the national plan.

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/healthcare/

For my entire career in public life, I have brought the message of LGBT equality to skeptical audiences as well as friendly ones. No other leading candidate in the race for the Presidency has demonstrated the same commitment to the principle of full equality. I support the full and unqualified repeal of the federal Defense of Marriage Act. While some say we should repeal only part of the law, I believe we should get rid of that statute altogether. Federal law should not discriminate in any way against gay and lesbian couples. I will also fight to repeal the U.S. military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, a law that should never have been passed, and my Defense Department will work with top military leaders to implement that repeal.

As President, I will use the bully pulpit to urge states to treat same-sex couples with full equality in their family and adoption laws. I personally believe that civil unions represent the best way to secure that equal treatment. But I also believe that the federal government should not stand in the way of states that want to decide on their own how best to pursue equality for gay and lesbian couples – whether that means a domestic partnership, a civil union, or a civil marriage. I will also place the weight of my administration behind the enactment of the Matthew Shepard Act to outlaw hate crimes and a fully inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act to outlaw workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. I have supported fully inclusive protections since my days in the Illinois legislature, when I sponsored a bill to outlaw workplace discrimination that expressly included both sexual orientation and gender identity.

The man has lost all credibility with the Gay community and is selling us out like candidates always do; at least Hillary and Edwards are up front when they do it. Personally I'm voting for Kucinich even though he doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell.

Until there are equal rights for ALL, my litmus test for voting for President will ALWAYS be how they treat gay Americans...all other issues are secondary
