3. I hope he got his facts straight.
One vet sleeping under a bridge is one too many.

200,000 seems high. It's stuff like this that comes back to haunt candidates.

6. You do know we have veterans of Vietnam, Korea, and ones that have
never served during wartime, don't you? They would be included in those numbers.

7. I see them everyday in San Diego near the shelter along the I-5
On ramps. This is between the MLK freeway and the Coronado Bridge.

8. That number is probably correct.
Many from the Vietnam era, but a growing number from later.

Many have psychological issues, difficulties re-entering normal society, PTSD, drug and alcohol issues, etc. Men who don't feel safe around other people, who might prefer sleeping in the woods even when offered housing, and who represent the ongoing costs of our many wars.

5. I just told my daughter what you posted. She told me that she
gives her lunch to the vets she sees on the streets. She said some of them are twenty-three. I'm so distraught over reading this. I have to go to bed. I can't read anymore tonight.

Please excuse me for butting in. I just joined and this is my first post. Could someone tell me if I want to vote for a Democrat (I'm a registered Republican) do I have to register again?

Thanks and again I apologize for butting in.

12. depends on the state you live in
and welcome to DU!

:hi:

Google the secretary of state office in your state to find out the rules, as it varies by state. In my state, you just show up to one caucus or the other and vote. Or in a primary, you walk in, tell them which ballot you want and go to your booth to vote. It's not a big deal.

Edited on Sun Jan-06-08 03:46 AM by annie1
in these elections. does anyone find that odd? unless i missed it, it seems completely left out, except for by edwards, but debates and the campaign talking points have ignored it.

edit, i shoulda have read all the comment before i posted, i see everyone said that as well. yeah, it's very odd to me.

15. Who cares about poverty?
The poor don't donate much to presidential campaigns or work en-mass for them because they're slaving at crappy jobs. They don't make huge contributions to political parties. They don't make for nice photo-ops during campaign events. And the rich certainly don't want to even imagine their tax dollars are going to be used to help "those lazy poor people" , which means any candidate who advocates for the poor will automatically lose the rich vote.

So what candidate is going to talk about poverty? :-(
