Do Kerry supporters want real change?
If they do want real change they are ignorant of political history (and of John Kerry) or they are just flat out lying.

If anyone thinks a politician can be influenced AFTER they are elected, they are extremely naive or wealthy.

Remember Clinton's campaign promises of '92 for health care reform?
Remember the Freedom of Choice Act that Clinton threw in the garbage?
Remember Clinton reversing his promise to not follow Bush's racist Haiti policy?
Remeber his campaign promise to end the ban on gays in the military?
Remember when he signed the DOMA?
Remember Welfare "reform"?
Remember the Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act?(Patriot Act-lite)
Remember the deregulating Telecommunications Reform Act of 1996?
Remember NAFTA?
Remember the so called "peace" where he sent U.S. forces into combat situations nearly twice as many times as the four preceding presidents combined had over 17 years?

I do.

2. I think everybody here at DU wants real change
and that means first getting rid of Bush.

If you want any change at all, vote for Kerry in November. If you want things to stay the way they are, vote for Bush or a third-party.

13. Of Course You Are CORRECT, Dookus...
I am hopeful that people will realize that even though there are no "perfect" candidates... our imperfect front-runner is a much better man than the criminal Bush* could ever be.

4. In other threads you say...
"I have spent the last 4 years working for progressive causes, protesting the war, etc..."

Then in another thread you asked, "What does GLBT mean?"

:)

This is at least your second thread attacking the Democratic frontrunner.

the sad irony is that the people who want the most change act in ways that ensure there is NO change.

9. I hope you have a time machine

because your argument, to the extent that such a thing can be gleaned from your post, is only with and about the past.

All wishes to the contrary, the voters are not going to put in a bunch of newbies, amateurs, and prattling folk stuck in the past at the moment.

Notice how the order of elimination in the primaries has gone- pretty much according to the time past since the candidate's political heyday. Biden and Graham are '70s politician sorts, M-Braun/Gephardt/Sharpton/Lieberman represent the politics of the '80s, Clark arguably took his cues from 1992, Dean and Nader are still stuck in 1994/1996 ideas; and it might mean something that Edwards' last election was in 1998.

It's wartime, and the voters aren't in a mood to put in anyone who isn't battle-hardened and able to lead to victory. They don't care about the finer points, only the general picture, because you know what they think about losing the next election. The reality of 2004 is that we're electing the best possible general and charging forward along the roads we know because we've taken them before. Leaving a lot people behind, I suppose, whose advices and desires are impediments rather than help.

11. The biggest change I want is Bush out of Office
and Kerry making USSC appointments.

With a Republican majority in the House and Senate, don't expect major changes over night. Not even Kucinich could work miracles with a Republican majority.

With Kerry in office we WON'T have new wars in Syria and Iran. Or a Constitutional Amendment banning gay marriage, or Roe v. Wade being overturned.

There's a lot of things that WON'T happen with Kerry in office. A lot of BAD things. It's up to us to get more House and Senate reps elected so he has some Dem support and CAN get some changes made.

We remember all of that too, but I am willing to take the bad along with the good. I'm not going to worry about missing out on some ideal candidate that doesn't exist or isn't viable.

16. Yes I am just ignorant
Give me a break.

Despite what will be your predictable rejoinders of a few cherry-picked votes, Kerry has a strong record of fighting for the right things, and he will work hard to undo the dastardly work of GWB.

As for your laundry list of the evils of Clinton, quite frankly Clinton was more conservative than Kerry is. On the other hand, let's take a couple examples:

Do you really believe that Clinton's promises re Health Care and the ban on Gays in the military were broken by Clinton? Or were they broken by obstinate Republicans and Conservative Dems. The President sets the tone and tries to get his agenda through. Is he/she always successful? No, That is the nature of the beast.

21. don't confound them with facts...
it's easier to believe that the stated position of the candidates will become law by fiat after the election.

Stuff like this makes me really believe there's a crisis in public education, specifically in the teaching of civics.

the guy that didn't. Funny you should mention tht you'd have to take him at his word on what he would do AFTER he was in office.

No hypocrisy there..only purity of conviction in spite of evidence to the contrary.

nice you know your political history and only seem IGNORANT of your legislative history.

24. Let's see, you cherry-picked ten votes (which, by the way,
Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 04:31 PM by littlejoe
have been fully explained) out of approximately 9,000 votes over a twenty year career. What else do you have? Because if that's all you have, it isn't EVEN close to being nearly enough.

Yes, I want what you call, "real" progressive change, and I am confident that John Kerry will provide that change.
