What about Florida and Michigan delegate count?
I know that the delegations will not be seated, but does the "number of delegates to win" lower because of that, or do you still have to get 50% of the total delegates (including what delegates Florida and Michigan *would* have had)?

I searched for the answer, so if you can find it, please post a link.

Thanks!!!

1. The number this year is 2,026.
Go here to see the break down:

I was told that at the convention, the delegates CAN be returned to these states. I don't know how that works, though.

6. This is such a laughable argument
They aren't going to be counted, Hillary doesn't have that kind of power, and chances are Flordia and Michigan may be the only states that she wins. It helps that she's the only candidate on the ballot.

15. She's got four times the number Obama has already with the super
delegates. And Obama is not going to come anywhere near. He won't take California, New York, Massachutes, Maryland, New Jersey just for starters. He won't take one damn state with a lot of delegates. And he won't take enough small ones.

4. There is no answer to that right now
It is to be hoped that one of the candidates breaks out and doesn't need delegates from either state to win, then the delegations from those states can be restored and vote for the nominee.

I think ultimately, they will want to seat a delegation from those states. Maybe the Republicans had a better idea when they chose to penalized their states moving up by taking away half their delegates.

9. Hillary is the only one who can get MI delegates....
Whoever the nominee is can choose to count Florida's delegates at the convention. Florida has 210.

10. Heya madfloridian...
But to get to the 50% of the delegates, do those 210 (and Michigan's total) count? I would guess not since CNN listed more delegates needed to win in 2004.

I am wondering if counting those delegates in the total number increased the chance of a brokered convention, but now I am guessing not.

11. Not sure of the details....BUT
If I were the nominee, and the Florida delegates were not for me...I doubt I would be willing to seat them. But I don't know the rules.

That's just me being selfish.

12. My point is that
if you have to get an extra, say 190 delegates committed to *be* the nominee (half of Florida + Michigan) but can't actually count their votes, there would not be a nominee to decide without brokering.

But, as I said, i think the removed Florida and Michigan from the calculation of the total delegates needed to win the nomination.

13. Even if they were not
the candidate will be desperate for Florida and Michigan's electoral vote. Think not seating them improves those chances. Even if they were delegates for your opponent; that is self defeating come November. I read the Number of votes needed to win the nomination will be reduced thanks to the Michigan / Florida conflict. And , did i not read Wyoming is also considered a rogue state.
