Sadly, people will vote for whomever Iowa tells them to vote for...

5. Nope...
the Iowa winner doesn't consistently get the nomination. But it looks like it will happen this year.

3. This is not true
In 1988, Iowa picked Gephardt for the Democrats and Dole for the Republicans. Final nominees: Dukakis and Bush the first.

In 1992 Iowa picked Harkin for the Democrats.

And, we should be glad that this is a longer primary season and, yes, that the "media" supposedly likes Edwards so much so that most of us, who will vote March 2. still have a choice and Democrats stay longer in the public eye.

4. iowa has been the first caucus for years
why the complaints now ? why didn't supporters of some candidates take issue with the process before they got into the race ?

People didn't worship Iowa's choice until now. Kerry went from 7% to 29% overnight after Iowa, and then to 49% after NH. This primary is a joke. This is not an attack on Kerry but the process and bandwagon voters.

7. Why are you ruling out the possibility...
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 11:40 PM by ALago1
...that most people have a genuine liking for J.K and have confidence in his ability to beat Bush?

In my opinion, you are making a false attribution.

On edit:
With regard to the polls, that ALWAYS happens in the primary season. In fact, being an Edwards supporter you should be on your knees thanking the Iowa people for giving him a boost in the polls. If he didn't place 2nd in Iowa, he would be out of the race by now.

13. 7% to 29% and then 49%?
Most of this is a result of a bandwagon effect. The nomination was won in IOWA. Why continue and waste money and beat up our nominee? Let's let IOWA pick our candidate and then prepare for the Republicans?

8. and iowa has been voting first for years
it gave jimmy carter a huge bounce also. i don't remember any candidates taking issue with this process that has been there for years. in new hampshire debate every single candidate agreed that new hampshire should remain the first primary with iowa being the first caucus and said they would continue supporting it.

10. Someone's got to be first
Iowa is the first place that the voters get to see the candidates up close, and compare them in one place, rather than by heresay.

No matter how you slice it, Dean may have been attractive when he was running alone, but when he was compared to other candidates, he couldnt cut it. Thats it.

11. If that's the case, then thank you, IA
I didn't even pay attention to Kerry until a week or so after Clark dropped out. The more I learn, the more I love. The more he stands up to Shrub, the more money I send him.

If IA is responsible for me finally noticing Kerry, then God love 'em. I got zero problem with that... well, except for the part about them not really noticing Kucinich and buying into the "latte drinking" bullshit... and the nasty weather... but other than that...lol
