A Huckabee win is a good thing on the republican side
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 12:39 PM by quinnox
Huckabee is not a right wing zealot like Bush. He has a brain and is more moderate. I was reading his campaign web site on the issues. I think Huckabee is the best on the republican side, Romney is awful and Guiliani is really disgusting. McCain loves the Iraq war even now. Huckabee has some interesting ideas on the tax system. And I was reading his web site, he says tough talk about "war on terror" but he also talks about diplomacy and "fighting smart".

The republicans in choosing Huckabee gave a big rejection to another right winger like Bush in my opinion. Bush's policies are dead in the water, and even republicans don't want to see more of a Bush like presidency.

11. Comparing him to Shrub is wrong. He doesn't engender the hatred that the scumbag frat boy does.

2. He most certainly is a zealot and a dominionist.....
He may be more moderate on some issues and not an inherently stupid man like Bush*, but he is stll broadly ignorant and thus easily manipulated... He also makes it clear that the sees no separation between his religious beliefs and governance.

3. Iowa is a red of the red state and since he won there by republicans
voting for him and a not the cross over votes, you can bet the republicans, regardless of the fact the he let murderers and rapist run free. Altho they sure made hay about the murderer Horton, let loose in Mass. thru no fault of Dukasis. When they do it wrong, it's at OK, but the sure like to raise hell when the democrats even have a piece of lint on them.

8. Iowa is barely a red state at all.
You wanna see Huckabee thrive? Go down to Georgia on Feb. 5.

4. He's also vulnerable on several issues dear to conservatives
Check out his record as governor:

1. Raised taxes
2. Took away local control of schools via consolidation that raised taxes
3. Used questionable judgment in pardoning a convicted murderer
4. Took government property when he left office

Huckabee: quite a character
http://www.indyweek.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A166125

"Or President Mike Huckabee, exiler of AIDS victims, discriminator of gays and lesbians—and gladiator for the Character Cities program.

Thankfully no Character Cities exist (yet) in North Carolina, but there are 172 nationwide, plus 37 counties and nine states—including Huckabee's own promised land of Arkansas—that have signed up to be among God's chosen units of government."

...

Then there's the whole evolution v. creationism issue. And wives being submissive to their husbands.

...

And I wonder how many moderate Republicans want THIS residing in or visiting the White House:

"David Huckabee “admitted to catching a stray dog during their summer session at Camp Pioneer in Hatfield, AR, and hanging the dog by his neck, slitting his throat and stoning him to death…" all because of MANGE.

"David most recently made headlines when he was arrested for forgetting about the Glock pistol in his bag at the Little Rock airport."

6. Excuse me? A Southern Baptist minister who doesn't believe in evolution,
who condemns gays and lesbians and whose own church didn't disavow slavery until 1995? Where is the diplomacy in that?

No, a thousand times no to Huckabilly. As far the republicans and * is concerned, the evangelista's don't care about him anymore. He didn't deliver the end of Roe v. Wade for them.

10. that's nutty. Huckabee is every bit, if not more, of a right wing zealot
as bushco. This is the creep that chastized Mitwit for not executing anyone. This is the creep that let rapists and murderers out of prison because they "got jesus". this is the creep that pressured the state police to not investigate his son for brutally killing a stray dog. this is the creep that wants to reclaim the country for Christ. this is the creep that thinks women should be submissive to their husbands.

Want more, there's plenty of it. And this wasn't remotely a rejection of right wingnuttism. religious fundies put him over the top.

13. Huckabee is the best of a very, very poor bunch.
As Governor, Huckabee was not painfully wingnut. As President (God forbid) he'd be a large improvement over what we have now, but then who wouldn't be?

Losing all that weight seemed to give Huch a new, better personality. He'd never have come this far as a fattie.

Huckabee is a fool, of course, but he's not as mean a man as most Pub candidates. Personally, I prefer Republicans like Huckabee -- who let the wrong people out of prison -- to Republicans like Giuliani, who put the wrong people INTO them.
