Edwards is and FDR and a T.Roosevelt roiled into one
He is going to take care of the corporate world, and the republican and corporations hate him, isn't that the way is was for FDR, who probably saved the nation. Yes I know for sure I lived under FDR. I know for a fact that the south was starving especially Georgia, bet some of the grandparents of the Georgia Republican voters turn in their graves at election, when they see that mark on the republican side of the ticket.

2. Yup. Corprats HATED FDR....and he welcomed it ' cause it let him know he was...
....standing up for THE PEOPLE instead of the powerful. My Mom told me the tales of those days...I remember. I wasn't there but it was passed down to me by my parents - what happened and why.

11. you've lived a long life.
sad that you've learned so little. Comparisons of Edwards- or any other candidate- to FDR and Teddy are waaay premature. Clearly living is no substitute for education.

to people that they can no longer disagree without heaving insult? You seem to have attracted a fair amount of bile from people who missed your larger point ... that FDR was most especially revered in the South, because Southerners of every creed and color was literally starving in the streets and fields.

I certainly **hope** Edwards is the stuff of Roosevelt and such ... we will have to see. To accuse him of a lack of political courage seems ironic. He is the only one (I omit Kucinich only for the sake of brevity, and also because I am a tad annoyed with him ...LOL) who is running on a platform that demands a fundamental change in the relationship between the public sector and the corporatist elite. He is the only one running on a platform that focuses its priorities on the poor and middle classes, while observing that the implications of climate change will affect them most severely. Krugman seems to take Edwards' part in this, while implying that neither Clinton nor Obama propose significant change, and that is consistent with my reading of their platforms as published.

Structural change is needed. Edwards is calling for it. Obama and Clinton are not. They appear afraid to fly in the face of "Reaganesque common thinking", the conventional wisdom that has brought us economic, ecological, and geopolitical ruin.

14. If the OP had said "Edwards has the potential to be....etc." the answers might
have been somewhat different. Perhaps it's the phrasing that has brought such rancor.

16. Yeah
And my response was perhaps excessive, too. Still, it kinda sucks when people bash on older people for simply expressing how they feel.

17. The OP has a right to say how she or he feels, but comparing Edwards to
FDR or TR is, to put it lightly, misguided. Edwards has done nothing to warrant that comparison.

19. Not yet, certainly
The rhetoric (not a dirty word to those who study philosophy) is what draws the comparison.

While I agree that he may have those intentions I don't know if we can call him TR and FDR yet. I think it is safe to say few Democrats have spken so openly about corporate power and poverty recently.

many of these comparisons can be made only after we have seen people serve.
