If Edwards is nominated who would you like as his VP?
For myself I would like Howard Dean.

Why?
1. Edwards projects warmth--he may need a VP who is an attack dog and will take on the GOP with gusto.

2. Edwards is a Senator, and Dean is a former Governor. So they bring different strengths to the ticket.

3. Dean has excited a lot of young people within the party and has a strong core of supporters who might view such a ticket favorably.

4. Dean might be able to help the Edwards campaign financially with his dedicated base of internet supporters.

1. We absolutely need someone
with foreign policy experience, or we're double-screwed! Of course, I think Clark would be the best, but I know that there are a lot of other good options out there, as well. But Dean doesn't do anything to fill in Edwards' weakest spot.

2. Not a bad idea...

but I think we could truly bolster the South or Southwest by taking a candidate from those regions. The Northeast is voting Dem either way.

Edit: Of course, this is all based on Edwards winning... which is still a longshot.

3. I like the idea of Blanche Lincoln being his veep
I've posted many different reasons for this, but I think that this would be such a likeable, strong ticket, that it would be difficult for centrists to ignore.

6. I Second Graham

They would look like a team (kind of like Clinton/Gore or even, yes, Bush/Cheney).

19. A good choice.
He is a good complement - foreign policy expertise to Edwards' domestic strength. Age to Edwards' youth. Executive experience to Edwards' regular-folks experience. And a nice set of electoral votes as well.

Plus, the two-southerners thing worked for Clinton and Gore. Let's try it again.

5. Debbie Stabenow or Ruth Ann Minner would be great. But Kerry is
most likely. Hal Ford would be cool (is he too young?).

I have said since his 2000 convention speech that Harold Ford will be America's first black president.

8. Really, really, bad idea, which is why it would never happen
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 04:57 PM by Bombtrack
Edwards is going to pick someone with more, not less quantity of experience in issues directly relating to national security, foriegn policy and defense

Secondarily, Vermont is one of the 1 or 2 worst states a presidential candidate could come from, because it has 3 electoral votes and 606,000 people, is safer than maybe all but 1 or 2 states, and has an extremely out-of-the mainstream stigma.

Not to mention the dread that many voters even in the middle would have at Dean being a heartbeat away from the presidency

Edwards has some good options out there. Jay Rockefeller, Carl Levin, John Kerry. But 2 who could both improve his confidence among voters as it pertains to issues, AND help win key red states are Wes Clark and Bob Graham

I can't stress enough how friggin vital it is that we have our best chance possible at Florida. It is 27 electoral votes, 6 greater than the next biggest, Pennsylvania, and the only true swing state in the south (at least part of it is in dixie). Arkansas and Louisiana, depending on the polling, could become swingstates for Edwards(probably not Kerry) but we had Florida stolen from us and it's so important that we don't forget about that.

I agree with Graham. Let's do to them what they did to US--- make them fight to retain 'home turf'.

11. That sounds good
But its likely Kerry is going to be the winner. EDwards can be VP. And then President after Kerrys two terms!!!!!

12. It wouldn't be worth giving up the senate seat when other vps wouldn't
Plus I'm not too sure Kerry would want to run for vp. Could be wrong though. He'd make a pretty good choice though, not the best in my opinion but a good one, but not because of his primary campaign. Primary success is not really parallel to general election success. Dean supporters were saying that it was for months, and now Kerry supporters are. They were both always wrong about that.

15. No, we'd still have a Mitt Romney appointee for 2 years
and the loss of Kerry's seniority in the senate. It isn't worth it when Graham and Clark are better choices

Romney and his pathetic delegation in the statehouse and senate could very conceivably stop it

20. Joe Lieberman, - again - OR
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 06:10 PM by JasonBerry
For a lot of reasons....but with Lieberman's experience, he could fill any stature questions. I worry about Bob Graham (health questions, campaign ability, debate ability)

Another possibility: I think Gary Hart would add a lot of meat to the ticket and balance well with Edwards inexperience in foreign affairs. He would demolish Cheney in a debate. The old Donna Rice stuff is old news. What really matters is that he is a much more mature candidate and is still married to his wife, Lee for 35+ years. That wouldn't be an issue and I think Hart could add a lot of substance to the ticket.

Sorry. I am sick of the Joe-bashing at DU. Joe Lieberman is one hell of a MAN and a hell of a SENATOR. Disagree with him and you want to banish him to another continent? That's respect.
