I'm voting for the guy the media won't mention
and the other candidates treat like Typhoid Mary - even Kucinich.

There is only one candidate openly talking about upsetting their collective applecarts - Edwards

Representing the People in US vs Entrenched Interests

23. Ken doll's not getting any attention? Barbie's gonna kick some MSM ass.
Kidding. Seriously.

Yes, Edwards has been treated shabbily - and Biden more so - by the MSM, but NOTHING compared to the treatment Kucinich has received at the hands of The Inevitables and their MSM enablers. If nothing else, the lack of coverage for the better candidates helped me make my choices.

I'm still hoping for a huge upset tomorrow and I don't care which of the "second tier" candidates it is.

10. The LA TImes talks Obama, Clinton and then at the end of the
article mentions Edwards. A lot of people out here do not know Edwards is running because he gets so little press.

Biden is not getting much press either, I might ad. And don't even think about Dodd or Kucinich or Richardson.

12. Yer kiddin' right
It has gotten to the point (hyperbole follows) where Obama picks his nose on camera for 10 minutes while Chris Matthews likens him to the second coming of JFK.

Seriously, it has about gotten that bad. (Don't mention the populist. Don't look at the bad man. Don't get angry at the rich elite that have been liquiditating your country. Just move along. Nothing to see here.)

Never mind.

(PS:I'm starting to favor Edwards, too. Especially after his statement on Iraq withdrawal this morning.)

8. I just did a little experiment
I searched for the top candidates on Google News. Not perfect, but a good approximation of the print media. Here are the results:

"barack obama" - 43,117
"john edwards" - 30,434
"hillary clinton" - 27,692

Looks like the OP will be voting for Hillary. She's clearly not getting her fair share here. She's the national frontrunner and leading in many Iowa polls. I guess the corporate media hates her.

11. My perception for a long time that the MSM declared this Clinton or Obama
Edited on Wed Jan-02-08 09:49 PM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
and just flat out consciously decided to ignore any other candidates. We know from our own debates on this board that ALL of them deserved real (not pretend) coverage of their views and positions. Edwards, Dodd, Biden Richardson and Kucinich never got anywhere near the press or coverage that they deserved. We were all robbed due to the expedient, self-serving, venalness of the MSM who had decided their narrative long ago.

21. You are somewhat correct, that on the one hand, the media pretty much ignored
Edited on Wed Jan-02-08 10:42 PM by FrenchieCat
Edwards for most of last year. However, that wasn't necessarily a bad thing, as it kept him out of harm's way (bad publicity with the 3 "Hs", and sympathetic Publicity on the news of Elizabeth), while Hillary and Obama have been much more scrutinized by the press. The lack of press did depress his fundraising ability, however....to the point that he decided to opt for Matching funds in October.

Currently his past lack of media coverage and the now resurgence of news reports about him is almost making him come to the caucus as a "fresh face" or/and "the Underdog candidate" which in Iowa is actually a good thing to be....so that voters can exercise their "independence".

However, Edwards has been getting positive media attention for the last couple of weeks, and this is actually when voters start to pay attention anyways. Remember Howard Dean as the "inevitable Frontrunner" throughout most of 2003? Guess what that got him? Certainly not the nomination.

The bad news is, however, that Edwards has never really taking a good vetting from the media. They have for the most part either left him alone as you mentioned (as was the case through all of 2003 and again through most of 2007) or they have provided him with positive press (as was the case once he came in 2nd in Iowa in 2004, and when they were pushing him for the Kerry ticket Veep slot, and in the last two weeks). In the meantime, Clinton and Obama have been depicted as "clawing" at one another; which doesn't look good to voters. In fact, I would daresay that Clinton and Obama had been put under much more scrutiny this primary season than Edwards has in his 6 years of running for Prez).

I am afraid that once the press starts to scrutinize John Edwards, they will unearth quite a bit and it will get rabid.

I'm starting to think that maybe the GOP and its corporate friends figured out that Edwards and his matching funds as the Democratic nominee is the only way that the GOP can win in 2008....and maybe the media understood that way before John Edwards did. And maybe we will understand this much better later on when it comes to pass.
