5,000 DRIVERS: HILLARY MAY HAVE THE LARGEST GOTV IN IOWA CAUCUS HISTORY
If Hillary wins tomorrow, this will be why. This is on par with a general election campaign. They are going to turn out as many of their core supporters as humanly possible. They know it's a tough race and they are rising to the challenge. If they can get 10 people per driver, that's 50,000 caucus goers in the bank without even counting people that drive themselves or the undecideds. If they get 75,000 caucus goers, they will win. Even under the most aggressive turnouts estimates of 200,000.

The big story tomorrow may not be how many young kids Barack turns out. It may be how many little old ladies in walkers Hillary does.

State director Teresa Vilmain and New York Rep. Anthony Weiner were also on hand. Vilmain later briefed reporters on the press bus on the way to Indianola. "We're going to go knock on every door that's a supporter and everybody that's leaning toward us," she said. Vilmain added that more than 625 staffers and volunteers went to visit supporters and undecideds on Tuesday.

Vilmain said there were still many undecided voters and talked about the importance of making sure caucus-goers are ready to go. She said the campaign had lined up around 5,000 drivers to help shuttle people to their precincts. They have more than 600 shovels to help clear driveways -- shipped using nine U-Hauls dispatched throughout the state over a 24-hour period four days ago -- and numerous pounds of salt for precinct walkways.

The campaign is providing food at pre-gathering sites, starting as early as 5:00 pm all across the state, in part to help the campaign gauge who has shown up and who hasn't.

4. Edwards and Obama are not doing the same thing...
On Thom Hartmann's show today, one of his regular news correspondents called in - she said that Hillary's campaign is bragging about having rented EVERY available passenger van, SUV... in the entire state. They've been working on this for months. Whether they use them all or whether they simply keep other campaigns from using them is yet to be seen.

The Gods must the crazy.

11. Then why don't you post something about it?
Oh, I see. Poo-pooing a thread about a candidate you can't stand is sooooooo easier!

5. If she does win, it might be this but also...
...her constituency is older and more reliable voters. Each year the "young enthusiastic" voters tend to disappoint. Still hoping for Obama mind you.

6. Do you know if the Universities are back in session there or
is it still Winter Break? That also will play a part - many of the young voters are energetic but then see polls that say Obama is doing great -so why show up... seen it happen many times before... (wishing we all mailed in our votes on the same day nation wide)

They are effectively ghost towns with very few coming back to caucus. But it may all be for moot. Thousands can show up but they are so concentrated in just a few precincts that the caucus system basically devalues their vote. Delegates are only awarded based on PAST voter turnout.

7. There's something about this that makes me uncomfortable
It's partly the buying the election thing and partly the aggressive sales thing. Yeah, yeah, I know it's part and parcel of the Iowa caucus experience, but I still don't like it.

9. This doesn't make me uncomfortable,
the thought of indy's and republicans deciding the winner of the first caucus is what bothers me. I hope she rounds up every democrat breathing to counter that.

Old age and treachery usually beats youth and enthusiasm.
