John Edwards' Support is Strong as Steel: On the Ground in Iowa!:woohoo:
by NCDem Amy

Here on the ground in Iowa, supporters are working on last minute GOTC efforts around the state. In Des Moines, at the United Steelworkers Local 164, a serious GOTC operation is in full swing.

Last night, as part of the 36 Hour Marathon for the Middle Class, John and Elizabeth Edwards stopped in at the United Steelworkers Local 164 for a rally.

* NCDem Amy's diary :: ::
*

John and Elizabeth Edwards arrived at the Steelworkers Union Hall to fired up crowd of Steelworkers from around the country, who'd come to Iowa to GOTC for Edwards. The rally kicked off with introductory remarks by Union leaders and Elizabeth Edwards, who was wearing a United Steelworkers Cap.

Check out Elizabeth's Remarks:

I took Elizabeth's advice and made a point to shake the hand of a woman Steelworker. She had come from Michigan to volunteer for John Edwards. What an amazing woman! After canvassing in 5 degree weather for Edwards earlier in the day, she was phonebanking throughout the evening.

Listen to what she had to say about Edwards, here:

Women Steelworkers for Edwards Rock!
There is certainly an instant bond between the women on the ground for Edwards here in Iowa. Working side by side in below freezing temperatures, phonebanking around the clock and working on other GOTC efforts down to the wire, drives home the urgency of the importance of electing a President who will lead on progressive issues that will ensure that we leave our country a better place for our children. And, hey, we have cool boots!

After Elizabeth's introductory remarks, Senator Edwards spoke on the importance of creating equality and fairness. Speaking on how corporate greed is destroying the middle class, he was recieved with roaring cheers and standing ovations. United Steelworkers for Edwards are an incredibly dedicated, hardworking group of people. No doubt about it.

Check out Edwards' Speech Here:

It is Time to Stand Up!

Edwards closed his speech by thanking supporters from around the county and stating, "On Thursday night, Iowa Caucus Goers are going to stand up, rise up, and say enough is enough!"

Edwards is continuing on his "Marathon for the Middle Class - 36 Hours, 36 Ideas" today where he is discussing, "his plans to stand up to the powerful special interests and give hardworking middle class families a voice in Washington. Each hour, he will highlight one specific policy initiative - a total of 36 steps to strengthen the middle class."

This evening, John Mellencamp will rally with Edwards in Des Moines! Kossacks, be inspired, ashlarah, machka, sparkleon and myself will be there to show support for the most progressive, electable candidate: JOHN EDWARDS!:woohoo:

6. I hate to break it to you but celebrity endorsements
have proven time after time to be pretty much meaningless. Whether it's Oprah or Bonnie, it won't make an appreciable difference.

8. It's called the spotlight, with the corporate media focused almost entirely on Hillary & Obama
Edited on Wed Jan-02-08 06:38 PM by GreenTea
For very obvious republican reasons....celebrities coming out for Edwards has forced some of the spotlight on him so that people know he's even alive....so what if it doesn't bring in a single vote, (but it will) the spotlight and focus has been changed because of the celebrities....and many more will jump aboard after tomorrow.
