Predictions: Gays will vote 90% for Kerry in November
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 01:47 PM by bluestateguy
The Republicans have decided to run a gay bashing campaign this year. There will be consequences for that. Homophobic "Christian" conservatives will be voting for Bush no matter what, so I see little for the Republicans to gain with this. They will grow more hysterical in their demands to marginalize gays and lesbians, and it will push fargile people over the edge: I fear another Matthew Shepard type of incident somewhere in the country. Some people will take cues from conservative politicians and religious leaders that attacks on gays are morally justified. In 2000 25% of gays voted for Bush. In 2004 I see that number going down to 10% or lower. Kerry will win 90% of the gay vote.

3. Edwards
If Edwards gets the nom, YEP.

What's Edwards' stand on this? I'd assume he's against the amendment.

2. Easily
90% voted for Clinton. Bush also has nominated homophobic judges and cabinet members among other things. Kerry has a stellar gay rights record and will crush Bush here. Minorities will turn out in record numbers for Kerry, just as Union members and African Americans turned out for Gore.

7. That low?
With Dubya's proposed defense of discrimination amendment, I say gay support for Bush shrinking to 1%.

10. Unfortunately there's always....
Some idiots who will never understand. I know a gay man who thinks Bush is one of the greatest Americans ever, some one we shaould all emulate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Moron, but I can't say it because I have a daily, though superfiacial, work-based relationship.
The blindness is like that of some Jews. If you ever saw the movie, "The Pianist" you know that there were Jews, called capos?, who implimented the Nazi programs. Guards, police in the ghetto, others in official positions. Perhaps they thought that they were lessening the brutality, but mostly they thought that they would be immune to the programs themselves. The Nazis used them, then they went to the same places and were killed, maybe delayed, but they met the same fate.
How any Gay person can have any doubts about the fundamentalist agenda for them, and not be horrified and terrified, is beyond me.

11. What's wrong with the other 10%?
I can't understand what anyone would vote for bush, especially the groups that have been singled out for termination.

anyone know?

I go to school in the miami area. It's a very gay friendly city so my perception of what the gay percentage in the population is thrown off.

13. I'm quite curious... How do you know 25% of gays voted Bush in 2000?
How was that data obtained? I'm also curious if gays/lesbians vote more or less in equal numbers to the population in general. What kind of impact could we expect if nearly all who voted Bush actively come out for Kerry (as opposed to staying home)?

14. Is that ANY gain at all???
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 02:32 PM by Frodo
How many gays voted for bush last time? Could he really have gotten all that many? The "log cabin republicans" are probably just a five-man poker club who get a lot of press.

And it will definitely help him with the religious right. They were getting pretty pissed at him lately, but the recent judges push plus THIS will lock them right back up.
